“B&B stay in Cooperstown at the Rose & Thistle B&B”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

We stayed at the Rose & Thistle B&B this fall to view the autumn show of color and to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame with out of town visitors. The location of this B&B makes it convenient to visit the BB Hall of Fame by foot, avoiding looking for available parking. The owners were a delightful couple who went above and beyond to be of service to their guests. Any request was treated quickly and with good cheer. They were a wealth of knowledge about eating establishments and their suggestions were right on target. The breakfasts were wonderful, imaginative and delicious. This is no wonder since both owners were previously in the restaurant trade. Why only three stars? The space inside the B&B is cramped. The baths are smaller than minuscule. The downstairs small sitting room with TV is not large enough for all the guests to sit. In addition this area is also used by the proprietors as their living room. I would love to give this B&B a better rating, but it was not an inexpensive stay and I feel a bit overpriced considering the accommodations.

Hi Folks,

We are sorry that you were disappointed with your accommodations with us. We take pride in making sure that our guests are comfortable while staying with us. We are a Queen Anne Victorian as opposed to a Grand Victorian so space is a bit smaller here.

The bathrooms were already installed when we purchase the home. We do have 2 rooms that have larger bathrooms, one with a claw tub and shower. If we had known that you would of preferred a larger bathroom, we would of suggested that room at time of booking the reservation.

We do live here, it is the law of the town that we do so, and it is our home, but that does not prohibit our guests from joining us in the parlor to watch television or have a conversation. When there are more guests that would care to join us, we usually make room by adding chairs and have at times, left the area so they would have seating. When guests arrive home and we are in the parlor, we always ask them to join us!

We feel that we are comparably priced for our area, considering the cleanliness, breakfast and overall hospitality( tea, coffee, snacks, etc) that we offer you upon arrival. We sit with all our guests and explain the town attractions, parking, restaurants, etc., so that your time here is optimized.

We would like to thank you for your feed back. There is not much we can do to improve the bathrooms unless we make the house larger but as far as the common areas, we can make sure that they are always accessible for the guests and afford them for ourselves.

Stay well

Patti and Steve

The Rose and Thistle provided the perfect atmosphere for a weekend get-away. Patti and Steve are gracious hosts with quite the knack for story telling. The morning of our trip I received a detailed email from Patti with driving directions to avoid the back roads in the dark. They served delicious multi-course breakfasts and provided lively conversation. When my husband and I wanted to visit the Omegang Brewery, Steve made us promise we would call him if we needed to be picked up (in case we wanted to taste multiple beers). The location is perfect: just a two minute drive from the main street or about a ten minute walk. The house was cozy and the room very clean. We would definitely go back and highly recommend!

From the moment you walk through the door, hosts Patti & Steve make you feel at home. The house is charming and the room we stayed in was inviting, comfortable and immaculate. One word "BREAKFAST." Steve works magic in the kitchen and I am not talking about pancakes. We were treated to a multi course breakfast that started with bread pudding and strawberries. Patti & Steve are quick to provide you with the necessary 411 on Cooperstown and all their recomemndations, from where to eat, to the best way to tour the Hall of Fame, were spot on. When we arrived back to the house after dinner, Patti entertained us with her wit and charm and she will keep you laughing. There is no reason to consider any other B&B in Cooperstown. The Rose & Thistle belongs in the Hall of Fame. We look forward to returning at some point in time (Perhaps the induction of Rivera or Jeter). Patti, give Morgan a hug from us and my mother-in-law says "hello." Regards, Kim & Phil

Dear Kim and Phil,

Thanks so much for the terrific review. We have a blast with you guys. The family similarities were scary as well as entertaining! We hope that we will see you again someday in Cooperstown.

Hope all of your babies survived the weekend with "granny" and the house was intact!!! Oh, by the way, what is the new name for the dog, ha! ha!

Best wishes for a safe and healthy holiday season.

We had our third stay at the Rose & Thistle in mid-October, and it was another amazing visit. Looking forward to catching up with Patti & Steve is a big part of our Cooperstown experience. Steve was out of town but Patti took exceptional care of us. Her breakfasts were delicious and her table beautifully appointed. Along with the breakfast we enjoyed getting to know the other guests. There are no strangers at the Rose & Thistle. You are always treated like family. (Well deserved ribbing is included) Patti must have called in a few favors because we had sunny weather rather than the rain we had been expecting. So we enjoyed the wrap around porch before heading in to town Saturday. That evening a few of our group relaxed with a movie and Ommegang beer in the comfy parlor, while the baseball fans watched the baseball game upstairs. We’re already working on “same time next year.” The inn is easy to find on the main street going in to town with plenty of parking. Morgan, their Westie, will greet you. Patti & Steve and their staff have set the standard for us in B&B’s.

Dear Marsha, Bob, Tracy, Ryan and Jim,

We get excited every Fall because we know that we are going to see all of you again.
Loads of laughs and great conversations. This year especially, since Steve was out of town and I had to prepare the breakfasts, of which I must admit, were just up to Steve's standards if not better!!

Next October, we look forward to having you all as our guests again. Best wishes for a healthy and safe winter.

Dear Rosalie and Tommy,

Thanks a million for the great review. We enjoyed seeing you again. Let 's not allow years to go by in between visits. We enjoy your company and sharing the same interests. Also, the laughter is the best medicine that any dr could not prescribe.

We wish you a safe and healthy holiday season and prayers for the safe delivery of your son's triplets being born in the very near future.

Stay well, be safe

The owner/operators have devised a way to make guests feel both spoiled and completely at home. The rooms are thoughtfully decorated and pleasing to the eye. But it's really the sense of hospitality which shines through. From the amazing breakfasts to great suggestions about places to see customized to our preferences, we felt totally pampered. I can see why people keep visiting year after year!

Dear Rod and Jinann,

Thanks so much for the great review. We enjoyed having you as our guest. We are glad that you felt at home and enjoyed sitting in our parlor and demonstrated to our other guests how your spinning wheel worked. Loved the shawl you were making. Please send finished pictures to us.

Patti & Steve are very engaging hosts. The house is very comfortable - welcoming, clean and beautifully decorated. Upon our arrival, Patti gave us tea, a map, list of restaurants and most importantly, her experience with those restaurants and information about the sites in the area. Steve does an amazing breakfast and I am a person who does not normally enjoy breakfast but enjoyed his. The location is good, the town is very nice, the B & B is lovely. What more does one need for a fun get away in Central New York
