“Classic grand resort hotel”

Simply, if you have not stayed here and can afford it, you should. Great, classic resort hotel on Otsego Lake. Like the Sagamore on Lake George, one of New York States finest. A great view of the lake and adjacent Leatherstocking Golf Course (one of New York States best) both from the finely manicured grounds and from the covered veranda complete with rocking chairs. Good food, excellant buffet breakfast, and nice bars, including a large outdoor "Fire Bar" overlooking the lake. New pool, large swim dock in the lake with row boats and canoes to rent round out the outdoor space. The hotel is within walking distance of the Farmers Museum, Baseball Museum & Hall of Fame, and all the shops and restaraunts in quaint Cooperstown, NY.

Dear Allyn99,

Thank you for your kind remarks, it makes us extremely happy to know that you were able to experience first-hand all that The Otesaga has to offer. Quaint is a great word to describe the destination, and with baseball and so much more, guests can easily spend two days experiencing all there is to see and do. Thank you for taking the time to write a review and we look forward to welcoming you back, hopefully soon!

The Otesaga is a lovely hotel on the shore of Lake Otesaga. You feel like you have stepped back 100 years. The property has great natural beauty, and it is impeccably maintained. The lake and the mountains are truly lovely, and sitting on the porch of the hotel in a rocking chair reading and enjoying the view is quite delightful. The room we had was very nice and fairly large, recently updated, but nicely done in the style of the old hotel. The bed was quite comfortable, and the bathroom was a good size, well-designed, with any amenity you might desire. The staff was helpful and very polite. We had the breakfast buffet which came with our room rate; it offered many choices, and the food was good (but not earth-shattering). We did not try any of the restaurants in the hotel, so I do not know what they are like. Overall, it is a delightful place to stay.

The Otesaga is a charming old school resort, with modern upgrades. We had a wonderful long weekend there.

Some highlights:
- Entry hall leads to balcony with loads of white rocking chairs. Liked to have a glass of wine and unwind, while watching the calming waters of the lake.
- Go down the stairs to the HIGE fire pit, on a chilly evening, you could meet up with friends and chat.
- Heated pool.
- On Friday/Saturday afternoon/evening, they have a lovely woman playing the harp. It is soothing and just adds to the great atmosphere of the hotel.
- Delicious and included in rate breakfast buffet. We were lucky enough to enjoy it on the terrace overlooking the lake.
- Beds were super comfortable.
- Rooms and baths appear to have had a recent refresh.

Hotel is walking distance from the Baseball Hall of Fame and Main Street. A plus as the town does get crowded on weekends.

The staff was wonderful, friendly and willing to help in any way.

We were in a smaller room, number 304, had a lake view, overlooking the pool. It was off on an alcove, which made it quiet. Many of the view rooms overlook the courtyard with firepit and restaurants/bars, so I could imagine they could be noisy.

Two minor negatives:
1. Pillows, there were lots of them, but they were super puffy. We used a towel as a pillow as they were too high. If they are putting 6 pillows on a king, maybe a variety?
2. Hawk Eye restaurant at 6pm in the opera season seemed understaffed. We were in no rush, but it took over 15 minutes to put in a drink order.

We loved it and will be back if in the area!

Room Tip: As menioned we were in room 304, it was on the small side, but functioning, with a pretty view and q...

My wife and I recently spent three lovely days and two nights at the Otesaga in Cooperstown. The name means "meeting place" in Iroquois. We wanted to visit the baseball Hall of Fame and found a wonderful resort hotel while doing so. The Otesaga is a throwback to the grand hotels you might have seen in Saratoga in the 1920s when the Vanderbilts stayed there. It has great common areas, including a fabulous huge terrace overlooking Lake Otsego and some fabulous grounds where children ran freely. Each night we enjoyed cocktails before dinner on the terrace and when we got the bill we knew we weren't in New York any more.

The main dining room (called the Glimmer Glass) is huge with ceilings at least three stories high. Breakfast or dinner in this room is a must or one can go a little more casual to the Hawkeye Grill below with a patio near the pool. There's also a beautiful 18-hole golf course adjoining the hotel. They have a new concept called "flash golf" where you can play for just one hour for $25 and they'll even lend you the clubs.

The beauty of it all is that the hotel is just a two block walk to the Hall of Fame so you never have to move your car. The rooms aren't quite as nice as everything else, but serviceable nonetheless. A great visit for the whole family or just the two of you.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the lake and bring your AAA card for 10% off.

We’re so glad that you chose to stay with us during your recent visit to Cooperstown and the Hall of Fame. Thank you for taking the time to post a review and for your kind comments, we’ll be sure to share it with the rest of the team. Our veranda is a guest favorite and it looks like you had the opportunity to enjoy it during your stay. Our flash golf is indeed a new concept and it has been well received by guests who still want to experience our golf course but are limited on time. We look forward to welcoming you back, hopefully in the near future.

My family stayed at the Otesaga for a few days the 2nd week of July.
The PROS: magnificent hotel situated on a gorgeous lake. Breathtaking views. A huge porch with rocking chairs. A wonderful fire pit/bar at night. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. Only two blocks from Main St. In Cooperstown.
The CONS: the Hawkeye Bar and Grill located in the hotel. Went there for dinner. My dinner was cold when it arrived. Salads never came. Waiter realized it and asked us if we still wanted them after our entrees were already there. Really bad service. Manager offered me a free dessert because of my cold dinner, but really, do you really want to tell a customer "your dinner was ruined, here, eat this chocolate cake instead"? That's something they do at Applebee's, not at a first class hotel such as yours. And never should a dinner have to go back and get warmed up. I didn't order a leftover. So this restaurant really bugged me. I expected so much more. My family hated it.We ate at an Italian restaurant on Main St. The next night, and it was delicious and $70.00 less.

On my trips to Cooperstown I would normally stay at a much cheaper hotel right outside of town. Since I was with my family this time, I wanted to try some place special, which is what the Otesaga is. And expensive, which I knew but decided to book it. I'm glad we gave it a try, but please, get your act together in your Hawkeye Grill. It really had an overall negative effect regarding our enjoyment of your resort.

We spent a night at the Otesaga to celebrate my wife's birthday and to attend the Glimmerglass Festival/Opera (Madame Butterfly). It is a big, beautiful hotel situated perfectly on Otsego Lake. The rooms are very comfortable with a huge kingsize bed an very large bathroom. We stayed on the 5th floor (elevators only go to the 4th, but that's OK) with a nice view of the lake (Room 580). Also, being an older facility, you could open the windows all the way! A big plus for us who like to sleep with night air, not A/C. Very nice dinner at the Hawkeye Bar/Grill - sitting outside overlooking the lake. Great breakfast (included) the next day.

The downside started with my call to the conceirge. I ordered a split of champagne and a cheese/fruit platter to be available in our room as a surprise for my wife. Well, I was told the champagne I found on the hotel's web site menu (a split of Veuve Clicquot) was not available (and it seems that the conceirge was not going to make it available - the town is very close by). I decided on a very nice bottle of Simi Chardonnay, instead (which was delivered to our room at room temperature, though the young man did go down and get us a wine bucket with ice). The platter seemed expensive ($30+), but I wanted it since we were planning a later dinner. Well, it was expensive because it was HUGE. It had to come off the banquet menu (a smaller, less expensive alternative had to be available). We had our fill, then offered it to several people sitting by us (as we enjoyed the wine, cheese, fruit on the veranda - which I HIGHLY recommend).

Room Tip: If you can, request a room with a lake view. The 5th floor rooms require a walk up stairs, but it i...

The rooms here are very large and comfortable. The beds are soft and everything is clean and well kept. The view of Lake Otsego is beautiful, and there are many activities. The golf course looks like a PGA course and is challenging as well as fun. It is also within walking distance to the Hall of Fame, and breakfast and dinner are included with the room rate. I will definitely come back when in Cooperstown.
