Had a great autumn mid-week trip with the family. Room was very clean with nice furniture and ambiance. The grounds were immaculate. I appreciated the excellent yet simple elegance of the grounds. Although the place was empty, it was still properly staffed and everyone there seemed like a polished professional.

The highlight of our stay was the breakfast buffet in the main dining room. The room was awesome (in a 1920's opulent kind of way) and the buffet was gigantic. They had a large selection of breakfast foods even though there were few guests. The service was great.

Overall, the hotel was grand. the only cons were that it was missing a hot tub and shows some wear. The staff made us feel like royalty. It was luxury in a fantastic lakeside setting.

This hotel exceeded all expectations for a recent state wide conference that I had attended. The staff ..... from fornt door greeter to cleaning staff .... was always helpful and alert to any concern of question that I had. The room accomodations, the restaurants, and the room linens were all above the standard of "Excellent."

Very charming, historic hotel with old world charm. The views from the balcony and dining rooms are beautiful. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed our visit but feel the rooms were a bit pricey based on the size. Each room varies as we were told. The food and amenities were superb, however, thought the hotel could use an update. Older furniture, interior designs and decorum. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will go back again for dinner or brunch only.

Room Tip: Ask for larger room and insure the price remains the same, it's an older hotel and not every roo...

Very interesting old town and hotel. The Staff was very pleasant, the grounds and scenery beautiful, and food was fantastic. The rooms do very in size, so when making reservations, request a larger room. It was very convenient that we could walk to town from the hotel.

I just spent one night at the Otesaga. We arrived early on Saturday, around 11:00, and they let us check in even though check in was at 3:00. We used the pool and my boys fished off the dock. They had an employee with rods and bait to help. The pool is gorgeous and so are the grounds. I actually love EVERYTHING about this place, except the price - it's very expensive. For one night for 2 adults and 2 kids it cost $635+ tax with the modified American meal plan. It included a great full breakfast buffet and a 4 course meal. If you eat in the main dining room there's no extra charge. We ate dinner in the Hawkeye Grill and paid either a $3 or $6 surcharge on most items. Drinks aren't included either - even soda. Gratuity also isn't included. It would be easier if they just raised the price and included tips and non-alcoholic beverages. In total we spent about $900 for the night.

The staff was so friendly and attentive. Coco the clown was around for the kids. The make your own sundaes by the pool were a nice touch too. The ghost stories by the water at night were fun too!

Bottom line - a grand resort, you won't be disappointed, but you'll pay for it.

A recent stay at the Otesaga reaffirmed our opinion that this is one of America's time-treasured
vacation resorts. Spending an afternoon in a rocking chair on the hotel veranda is an experience not to be missed. This is a classy resort where men are required to wear jackets for evening in the dining room. We were there on the modified American plan which included breakfast each morning and dinner each evening. Breakfast consisted of a large buffet which offered everything one could possibly want for breakfast. If an item wasn't readily available on the buffet (such as poached eggs), one word to the server brought the freshly prepared desired dish to the table. The dinner menu offered a variety of main dishes from steak, to fish, to duck, to vegetarian selections. Dinner did seem a bit precooked, and mashed potatoes appeared to have been sitting for awhile on the plate. Prices are high, and one pays for the spectacular setting right on Lake Otesaga. Guests need to be very specific about room location. Many rooms do not have a view of the lake. Try not to be placed on the second floor overlooking the veranda roof. There are fun opportunities for water activities on the lake, and golfing is highly desirable. If you've got the time and the money, this is a great stay!

So we attended our first Otesaga Forgotten Wine Tasting with Sommelier Chad Douglass. The series is offered the last Friday of the month at 5:30PM for $25 pp for a four course small plate wine pairing. First, Chad is awesome. He is extremely knowledgeable and a wonderful instructor. The evening was light and fun, the company was great and the food was amazing. Sommelier Douglass was an absolute wizard when it came to pairing the courses and Chef Greg as usual did a remarkable job. I can't recall the last time we had such a great evening. Needless to say, we will be regulars.
