“owner rude-tried to sneak fees on my bill!”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

Had a great week with my son in Cooperstown for his 12u baseball team except for a meal at both back alley grill and Cooperstown diner. The reason I mention both restaurants is that in both instances each restaurant tried to "sneak" fees on my bill! Turns out both are owned by the same woman who is rude and has no customer service skills! Cooperstown is such a pleasant and quaint small town ,just unfortunate of this unpleasant experience. My advice is to go to Doubleday café, the local bakery on the corner as well as the omme gang local beer brewery. Also, the otesago hotel restaurant (east walk from downtown main St) has a great view, great food and reasonable prices. So, consider yourself warned about back alley grill and the Cooperstown diner......

“Not pretentious, not expensive, not bad”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

My brother and I were in Cooperstown, like many other guys, to visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame for a couple of days and we were looking for a restaurant that offered meals at night without being too expensive or fancy. We searched for it in vain for awhile because it actually is in a back alley. The street it is on is the only one we noticed without a traditional street sign in Cooperstown, i.e., you can't see it driving by. Ironically Hoffman Street is right across from the Hall of Fame! Back Alley Restaurant seemed like a local place, along with visiting baseball fan guys like us. Four of them sat the next table on the second-story deck. The service was good, the food was what we were looking for and the atmosphere was friendly. Although the deck is "no smoking", an ashtray was accessible at a tree growing up through the floor (the tree provides daytime shade and lighting at night). Unfortunately, the ashtray was available for use - although to my smoking brother's delight. The atmosphere outside on the deck was great on a cool evening and after awhile you don't even hear the Country music playing in the background.

“WOULD GO AGAIN.....”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

We first went in for drinks and to look at the menu, sat upstairs at the bar. Bartender was very friendly and the atmosphere was soothing. We back in the following night for dinner (prime rib was the special for Saturday night). Husband said that the prime rib was very good and compared to other places in town maybe a little better. Ribeye was also a good choice. Again are service was fast and waitress was very pleasant. We will definitely go back again.
