“Loved the Cooper Inn!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

I absolutely loved the Cooper Inn! It is so charming and beautiful, and the rooms are updated and have everything you need, including a very pretty bathroom that was very big! The staff is super friendly and helpful and the breakfast in the morning was tremendous! You cant beat the location, and the facilities at the Otesaga were top notch. Definitely recommend the Cooper Inn!

Dear Jen G.,
How great to read such a positive review, thank you for your comments and feedback, we’ll share your response with the staff as they work to exceed our guests’ expectations, they’ll be happy to read your comments! The renovations have made a positive impact on our guests’ experiences but it is the customer service that counts and we’re fortunate to have such a great team! Hope to see you back in the very near future.

The BEST part of our family vacations to Cooperstown includes staying at The Cooper Inn and using the amenities at The Otesaga Hotel and Resort. We had the most spectacular family time enjoying swimming in the pool and attending all of the events and activities of the July 4th weekend. The chocolate covered strawberries in our room was such a sweet way to start off the weekend. There were all sorts of contests including Scavenger Hunt, July 4th Trivia Contest, Sommelier's Challenge, Candy Guess, and Coloring Contest. As always, the late afternoon tea time with a pianist playing the grand piano was delightful. Although the cookies have always been good, the new French pastry chef bakes with such talent. His unique way of baking blew us away beginning at this fun event and continuing as a wonderful ending to every meal. This brings dessert to a new and exciting level of enthusiasm. While some enjoyed Story Telling with Coco the Clown and others danced the night away at the Templeton Lounge, our family waited until 9:30pm to enjoy local historian and author Bruce Markusen tell Ghost Stories at the hotel dock. Amazing! Other options of the weekend included: a Welcoming Reception in the Iroquois Room, a Hotel History Tour of the Otesaga, Face painting time with Coco, Patriotic Crafts for Kids, Pie Eating Contest, Water Toss, and other lawn games, Animal Balloons, Cooking demonstration and cocktail tasting, red, white and blue Make Your Own Ice cream Sundaes, Fishing Derby, and ice cream and pool party social event, Fire work exhibition over the Otsego Lake, and many buffet and sit down meals which are all prepared by a five star chef and the NEW French pastry chef I mentioned earlier. When you are at the Otesaga ad or Cooper Inn, everyone in your family is treated like a professional baseball player. Oh, and I forgot to mention that these two hotels close down to the public for Induction Weekend when the Baseball Hall of Fame players come and stay with their families for the same kind of treatment you get while it is your turn there. Every detail of every day reveals dedication and enthusiasm by each manager and staff member including General Manager Jim Miles, Ken Wayman, and Lance Gardner. There are a million reasons why you need to get to Cooperstown, but staying at The Cooper Inn allows you to truly enjoy your family vacation in the most spectacular environment ever. This vacation keeps getting better...!!!

From the moment you set your eyes on the property you know (or at least hope) you are in for a treat. When we entered the beautiful foyer we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful person which set the stage for our wonderful stay.

Our room was located on the 2nd floor (up steep steps - not sure if there is an elevator) facing the front entry. It was a large and beautifully appointed room. The color scheme in blues and yellows. The room had a fireplace and 2 comfy chairs with plenty of room to spare. The bathroom was large as well, with nice soaps and plush towels.

The Inn itself is beautifully appointed and has lovely sitting areas. In the afternoon drinks are set out (I believe it is an honor system). And the are in a brightly lit room. It is a help yourself breakfast - which has a bit of everything - not overly fantastic but just enough.

The location is great. It is less than a 5 minute walk to their sister hotel, Otesga (which is great to go for a drink on their veranda overlooking the lake), a 5 minute walk to the Hall of Fame and the many restaurants in town.

Definitely a great place to enjoy lovely Cooperstown.

The Cooper Inn is, as it fits within Cooperstown, a place that time passed by - in a great sense. The location is ideal for foot-traffic to the Hall of Fame museum, Doubleday Field, and the main street/downtown district of this great little town. As a tournament director for competitive adult baseball tournaments - I've never hesitated to use the Cooper Inn as my personal HQ, as it is pleasant, classy but real, with excellent parking and service - and is also just plain practical for any visitor to the Cooperstown scene.

We were looking for a place in Cooperstown which was within walking distance of the main strip and which would easily accommodate three adults and an 18 month old. The Cooper Inn has a perfect location and beautiful lot/grounds. Within two blocks of the Hall of Fame and close to food and shops. We opted for a two bedroom suite. It had one room with a twin bed (where the toddler slept in the pack and play and his mom slept in the twin bed) and one room with a twin and a queen bed. There was a small connecting hallway with a door to the shared bath. Each room could be closed off which worked well for us having a small child with an early bedtime and early wake up. The large yard/grounds was also helpful for us to have space to allow the little guy to run around without concern. The gentleman checking us in followed up at the room to see if we had all we needed since he saw we had a little one with us.

Each room had a fairly large TV with remote. In the sizable closets hung bathrobes as well as an extra roll-awa bed. The beds were super comfy - one of the best beds I've slept on - with very nice lines and pillows. The rooms, like the rest of the Inn, had character and period elements were kept to give the space charm while modern updates made it functional. The adjoining bath was updated and the shower was great.

Our bedroom (the larger of the two) had an easy chair as well and we had old fashioned veranda type doors which we could open to the front of the building to get fresh air.

The Inn decor is somewhat overdone for my tastes, but obviously was the look they were going for and everything was in good condition. They have a very comfy front room area for reading, conversation and relaxing. The breakfast which was included was typical of other hotel breakfasts - with fruit, pastries, waffle maker, toasts, hardboiled eggs, etc. It was all fresh and well attended by the staff. The nice part was that we got to eat that breakfast in a beautiful dining area on real linen tablecloths, china and silverware.

Overall, I would stay here again anytime. It was not cheap, but split 3 ways between our family it was doable for us. You will find that there simply arent chain type motels close to the action in Cooperstown and I think to really enjoy the town, you should budget for the nicest room you can afford.

Room Tip: We were on the main floor. I'm not sure about the location of all the rooms but it did appear t...

The Cooper Inn is just beautiful. The space, the appointments, the atmosphere, the service are impeccable. This is an historic property with a contemporary feel. It is well maintained, elegantly furnished and scrupulously clean. The are only 15 guest rooms, so it has the atmosphere of a B&B but it is affiliated with a large resort in the area and offers access to all its amenities as well. The inn is about two blocks from the Baseball Hall of Fame and beautiful Lake Otsego.

This delightful Inn built in 1816 offers all the comforts of home including a delightful breakfast, comfortable bed and wonderful location. The Inn is located right in the middle of this quiet little town, within walking distance of The Baseball Hall of Fame, baseball oriented shops and restaurants. A very enjoyable place to relax, the inn sits right on its own park like property in case you want to go for a stroll. It is clean as a whistle and the staff is friendly and helpful. The spiral staircase is part of its charm, but there is no elevator.
