This museum is in a lovely setting, being on the grounds of an old mansion on the lake. The museum building itself is updated and we went specifically because they had an American Impressionism exhibit. The exhibit was very well done, with a large selection of paintings and comparisons to the European impressionists explained throughout. Their other exhibits were also well done. Lighting is good, and it is small enough that you can see all the exhibits in a morning. They have a nice cafe on premises where you can get coffee or lunch. I only sampled the latte, but it was very good.
It is worth a visit just to see the grounds alone. What we didn't realized was there are several historical buildings out back, one of which had a young lady explaining the house and objects in it. We only stumbled upon her, as she was inside the house, but she was knowledgeable and very friendly, eager to share her information. The site is just lovely, being on the lake, and is worth walking around. It is obviously a wedding site, with the grounds laid out for groups and photography, and rightfully so! The views are beautiful! It is well worth a visit.
