This museum is in a lovely setting, being on the grounds of an old mansion on the lake. The museum building itself is updated and we went specifically because they had an American Impressionism exhibit. The exhibit was very well done, with a large selection of paintings and comparisons to the European impressionists explained throughout. Their other exhibits were also well done. Lighting is good, and it is small enough that you can see all the exhibits in a morning. They have a nice cafe on premises where you can get coffee or lunch. I only sampled the latte, but it was very good.
It is worth a visit just to see the grounds alone. What we didn't realized was there are several historical buildings out back, one of which had a young lady explaining the house and objects in it. We only stumbled upon her, as she was inside the house, but she was knowledgeable and very friendly, eager to share her information. The site is just lovely, being on the lake, and is worth walking around. It is obviously a wedding site, with the grounds laid out for groups and photography, and rightfully so! The views are beautiful! It is well worth a visit.

There is not a lot to say, it is an art museum. The Native American art display on the lower level is fantastic. The civil war exhibit is certainly a must see. In all honesty we spent half a day there and thought that the entire place was worth evey minute. Do not miss the building and grounds, another type but still a beautiful artwork.

We were surprised to find out the 2-fer between the Fenimore Art Museum and the Farmer's Museum, so we began with the tour of the Art Museum which included the American Impressionism:
Paintings of Light and Life exhibit which we thoroughly enjoyed. Also, a special treat was the exhibit called Internal Landscapes: The Paintings of G.C. Myers. And the artifacts, crafts and artwork from all over the world are a cherished collection that we felt honored to experience! We look forward to the upcoming exhibition schedule to take in another day in Cooperstown!

This is a must see if you visit Cooperstown. Plan for about 3-4 hours; about an hour and a little per floor plus time to visit the gift shop/take your time.

This museum is beautiful, and we saw some lovely exhibits that were not overwhelming. The setting is also absolutely gorgeous.
