Subic Bay Day Trip from Manila
Reviewed March 22, 2014

We visited the safari as part of a day tour and what a disappointment. On entering we walked around the zoo which was the normal with animals in enclosures then headed for the safari train. We waited about 20 minutes for this and were driven a few minutes and then told to get off and pointed to an indoor walk through attraction. On exiting this there was no train and no signs to tell us was to do. We followed some other people down the hill and yes there was the waiting area for the safari bus. We waited nearly 1 hour for our bus (all done by numbers which wasn't explained to us until we asked). The safari buses are enclosed but you can buy chickens etc to feed the tigers thought a small trapdoor. The tiger safari lasted about 5 minutes and we were back in the loading area, again with no idea were to go. We asked and were pointed to another safari vehicle (train) so boarded this which drove down the hill to another attraction (we didn't bother). Finally the train started heading back to the entrance through the Savanagh which was supposed to have free roaming animals but we didn't see any (just trees and grasses). We were there for nearly 3 hours to see tigers for 5 minutes and not much else. We wont be going back

The place needs more improvement for adults to really enjoy it along with their kids.. There are fewer animals than I expected. The only thing I liked was the picture taking with the tiger, the zoo part and the animal show. The tiger safari was soooo short. Find a tiger, the crew feeds it then go back to the waiting area that's it, no longer sightseeing inside. For their museum parts, they could have at least put voice narrations about the things inside it since it is boring to read descriptions especially the lights are dim. And there should have been guides to accompany us inside so that people know what to look at since its dark in some of the attractions. I don't even remember which attraction it was, when we entered it was quite dark, we can't really figure out what the displays were then after 5 min the tour was finish without us even knowing what the experience was all about..

Tip: Don't expect too much so that you won't be quite disappointed like me.. Just enjoy the zoo and the animal show. And take pictures with the animals at least for remembrance.

We travel all the way here just to see and take photo with the tiger.when we enter we want to have a picture right away, they told us after ur trip and nobody notify us that this is until 3 pm. So our trip ended around 2, they sent us to the other activity, after that we are so excited to take photo, too bad that we are late, so we asked for a manager. The manager shows up, he tolds us "Unfortunately" wow, this is not how you approach a guest who is already disappointed. You should at least make an alternative to make each of your guest happy. Please tell your staff to be informative at least.

Highly recommended. Just the tiger and lion feeding are worth the entrance fee. Make sure to carry chicken to feed the tigers and lions (carry some extra if you want to prolong the experience). My 3 yr old boy still enjoys watching the videos of the tigers and lions.
You can also feed crocodiles and small colourfull birds (who will eat right out of your hand).
Dont miss taking a photo with one of their tigers. It is when you see the tiger sitting on a bench just 2 feet from you that you actually realise how big and powerful these animals are.
I have to mention Albert, our very friendly guide, who did a great job of showing us around the whole place.
There is also a zipline but i skipped that since we were planning to go to bohol later on, where the zipline ride is a lot higher.
The only flipside is that the zoo isnt highly organised / planned but that isnt an issue because there is a guide with you.

A few tips:
1. Try visiting early in the morning, so there are very few people around (we were the first ones to enter the zoo as soon as it opened and so during the tiger feeding, we were the only ones in the jeepney, making it like a private ride for us)
2. Carry plenty of water and wear a hat. Its very humid.
3. If you are taking a picture with a tiger, give your camera to someone else to video record the whole experience. Their photographer will take your picture, so you dont need to take a picture with your camera as well.
4.Dont forget to charge your camera batteries before the trip.

My 3 year old enjoyed the bird & lamb feeding very much.
The tiger & lion safari ( you get to see staff feed the beast from the caged jeepney) is also great for first timer
However, if you have been to many zoo around the world before, this place is just too far away (approximately 2 hours drive from Manila) for a bit of fun for the kids.
