I would call the Hudson House the Motel 6 of B&Bs. The rooms are tiny and devoid of any cuteness or luxury. All the furniture was beat up, no towel racks in the bathroom, small bed, cheapo stenciling on the walls, ghetto-lookin lamps, etc. The staff, although sweet and local-ish, were very slow and generally unattentive. But the breakfast was good though and the rooms were very quiet.

Luckily the Hudson House didn't ruin our trip because Cold Spring is such a wonderful little village, and so close to Manhattan. But I think next time I'll try a different B&B.

This was a second stay at The Hudson House for my husband and me. We're from NJ and love to hike, so it's a short drive to some good hikes with views of the Hudson Valley.

We like it for location, as Cold Spring is only an hour from where we live, and is right on the water, so beautiful to look out the window (if you get a river view).

The Inn is nice enough, with an historic feel to it, rooms are pretty comfortable, but lacks the details of many places. The furniture in the rooms is mostly new and cheap. The bathroom in our room really needed work. It had a pre-fab shower, and tiles needing regrouting. Everything worked though.

The TV is mounted on the wall, and you have to walk past it to get to the armoire, so my husband hit his head and his shoulder walking past it.

The Inn offers continental breakfast during the week and full breakfast on weekends. The continental was pretty substantial, with cereal, bread, bagels, and smoked salmon (though no cream cheese!), coffee, tea, FRESH orange juice and they made us a Belgian waffle! On Saturday, we had a choice of 5 different breakfasts. It was fine. Only complaint: they lock the door until exactly 8:30 when breakfast starts.

The staff is very nice, but they seem inexperienced. They didn't give us the feeling like they were going that extra mile for the guests, and it wasn't busy when we were there.

They put out fresh cookies, fruit and coffee and tea (but no milk or sugar?) in the afternoons. They put a nice chocolate on your bed when you arrive, but none the next day.

At $165 and $175 per night, off-season, I expect a little more. Still, a decent place.

The Hudson House in Cold Spring is a wonderful historic inn with an outstanding restaurant. It's located very close to the Hudson River and our room had a great view with a small balcony. Entering the inn is like taking a trip back in time because of the Federalist architecture and furnishings.

The restaurant is outstanding with a large wine list and good (though not particularly polished) service.

On the down side, the rooms are small and it's very near the train tracks. The Metro-North trains don't run all night, and it didn't disturb us, but it might disturb lighter sleepers.
