When I knew I would be visiting the area, I decided to take the short drive to see Cohoes Falls. It is a short drive from Albany at the end of Rte. 787 North. There are two places you can see the falls, but the best bet is to pass by the first sign for Cohoes Falls and go a little farther up the road to Falls View Park where there is a nicely maintained parking lot across the street. There are 2 great overlook areas right past the archway into the park where you can take photos. If you get there on days when the long stairway is open to the riverbed, you can see the falls from a lower vantage point. It takes a little effort to climb the stairs, but they are very new and easy to navigate. It won't take a lot of time to see the falls from all the angles, but I thought it was well worth the short drive. The water level in the river was pretty low, but the falls were still pretty and of course they would be amazing if they were flowing hard after a big rain or after a snowy winter.
