“Worth the short drive if you're visiting the NY Capital District”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

When I knew I would be visiting the area, I decided to take the short drive to see Cohoes Falls. It is a short drive from Albany at the end of Rte. 787 North. There are two places you can see the falls, but the best bet is to pass by the first sign for Cohoes Falls and go a little farther up the road to Falls View Park where there is a nicely maintained parking lot across the street. There are 2 great overlook areas right past the archway into the park where you can take photos. If you get there on days when the long stairway is open to the riverbed, you can see the falls from a lower vantage point. It takes a little effort to climb the stairs, but they are very new and easy to navigate. It won't take a lot of time to see the falls from all the angles, but I thought it was well worth the short drive. The water level in the river was pretty low, but the falls were still pretty and of course they would be amazing if they were flowing hard after a big rain or after a snowy winter.

“Hidden Gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2012

Lovely view of Cohoes Falls from Falls View Park--and besides seeing the falls, there's historical signs to give you some context of what's happened there, explain water energy, etc. When the conditions are right, they open the (steep and long) stairs to the base of the falls and riverbed--awesome! Try going in the spring when the falls is really rockin'! In the summer, the water flow (or lack thereof) make it appear a bit rocky.

“Interesting for a quick stop”

Not a big "destination" but worth a visit if you've never been. It's quite pretty, especially if we've had a lot of rain fall. Definitely has a "Last of the Mohicans" feel.

“Impressive even after a dry winter.”

We didn't see the falls at its best because the winter had been so dry but it was a worthwhile trip nonetheless.
