“A foodie surprise in upstate NY”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2014

The food and service was wonderful. We had: haloumi and watermelon salad; the grilled peaches and burratta; thai noodles w shrimp; the cannelloni; and a chocolate peanut butter dessert. With the prosecco it was quite delicious.

“Upscale, Local, Beautifully Done”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2014

Nola's is a fabulous local joint, fairly new, located in an old bookstore that was a village green staple that got put out of business by Barnes and Nobody. The restauranteurs kept many of the original bookshelves and use them to display their nice wine selection and a collection of local Clinton Potters pottery. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and well trained. This is a great spot on the green with a little bit of outdoor seating in the summer.

There is a full bar with lots of specialty cocktails and unique martinis. They always have an in-season special and some great staple items that are always on the menu. There is a nice bar for solo dining, and some nice intimate spots for a date night. Large parties may have a wait as this is a small place, but they'll accommodate as quickly as possible and it will be worth the wait.

The menu is eclectic and appropriately portioned with lots of unique flavors. Give the soup of the day a try. It's always good.

This is one of two very fine spots in Clinton and one of only a few in the greater Utica area. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food. Closed on Sundays. Open all other days at four. Try The Annex next door for a glass of wine first if you like.

“Friendly Service - Dinner made to order”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2014

We have been regulars at Nola's since it opened. The chef prepares meals just the may you want them, even gluten free. Waitresses are a joy! You will love the intimate setting on the green in Clinton.

“Simply Wonderful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2014

I have dined, repeatedly, at Nola's (I work nearby). After numerous experiences I want to share why.

The formula is simple:

1) Clinton's village green can be a quaint and intriguing place to visit. It is fun to park down the row, stroll by (and through) the shops, and drop into Nola's for hot chocolate, coffee, tea, a sandwich, soup, or a full-blown meal.

2) Nola's is clean (I've literally seen the staff on their hands and knees scrubbing the floor and cleaning the chair legs, etc.), tidy, crisp, and together. It is decorated to reflect its bibliophilic bookstore roots. The whole feel is one of organization, professionalism, and warmth. Ahh, the warmth. Even though I can make this place sound almost sterile, nothing could be further from the truth. There is a heart and soul that is palpable. There is true connection. There is dignity. And it shows.

3) The food. It quickly becomes obvious, even to the casual diner, that someone in the kitchen truly cares about fun, excitement, and experience. It is clear that the chefs are curious, adventurous, meticulous, and exuberant. The food, while having a comfortable, casual feel to it, always has that little bit of excitement. The quality, the nuances, and the flavor all add up to a very satisfying experience. And, feel free to request your special tweaks. If they can do it, they will. With a smile.

4) (I've saved the best for last) The people. Those people toiling away in the kitchen? The people on the floor, scrubbing away? Yeah, those people. They don't do those things because someone is "making" them do it. They do all this because they genuinely care about the diners' experiences, because they see how things can be better, and because they would want things to be this way if THEY were stopping by. Every single one of these people is a vibrant, loving, kind, caring person (I've spoken, personally, with them all). As a customer, you can "shut it off" - you can breeze through a quick bite to eat and not engage. They respect that. But, you can also slow down, chat laugh, and get to know these people. They're 100% real. They're loving. They're human. And they make the experience quite special - if that's what you want. They'll never fawn all over you, or go on and on about themselves. It's not like that. It's true human dignity and mutual respect (I guess that many customers find it refreshing that Nola's staff are just as savvy, engaged, informed, experienced, and creative as they are). It's intelligence and creativity. It's quite unusual. And ... it's Nola's.

Look for the common thread in all the other reviews of Nola's. Next, drop in for your first time and feel it out in person. Then, return for your 50th time to respect this wonderful business and these wonderful people. Ultimately, stop by to respect yourself.

“A neighborhood restaurant with Gourmet food”

My husband and I have had dinner at Nola's several times, and each time we've visited, we've been impressed by the food and the service! I like to be able to support a locally run restaurant and look forward to our next visit!
