My family gathered for my mother's 80th birthday and we stayed at the McKinley House. It was simply outstanding. Beautiful grounds and a stunning house. Extremely clean. Comfortable beds. Very quiet. The rooms had air conditioning, which was a godsend. The porch is perfect for sitting in the evening, and the living room area was a nice gathering space where we talked and drank wine. Breakfast each morning was great - and the conversation with proprietors (who wear many hats!) Steve and Alyse was always a delight.

It was also very nice to have several good restaurants just a short walk away - as well as activities (we went kayaking one evening). If you are having a family gathering (or just need a nice quiet place to lay your head for a night), I highly recommend McKinley House. I look forward to the opportunity to return.

I originally discovered this B&B here on TA when researching accommodations for our first ever trip to Clayton, NY for a family reunion over the long July 4th weekend in 2012. We so enjoyed our visit to McKinley House that we booked again for this year and it did NOT disappoint! Steve and Elise are great hosts and it's obvious from the spotless room and high quality breakfast foods that this B&B is definitely a labor of love for them both!

Book early, though, because this place is popular! Very convenient to everything you want to see in Clayton, Alex Bay and on Wellesley Island!

Room Tip: We booked the first floor room this year (The Murray) and liked it very much.

I was very pleased with McKinley House and with lovely, serene Clayton, NY. The house is beautiful and is kept extremely clean. It was also very quiet. The beds were excellent. I stayed in the Basswood room. There was a really deep bathtub with two shower heads (I only used one. It was a strong shower!) Hostess Elise was very attentive and friendly. Breakfast was basic but good consisting of great pastries from a local bakery, cereals, juice, K-dups, and yogurt. Elise said that Steve cooks for guests in winter. He was not there for my summer visit. Clayton is a quaint town right on the water with nice shops. We heard a 4th of July concert that was taking place in the local theatre and broadcast out on the street. We listened, watched a gorgeous sunset and had good ice cream! The only thing the town lacks is vegetarian food choices. There is one restaurant, Bella's, that serves really good sandwiches and salads, that provided enough options.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful and clean. I don't think any have more than one bed.

The location to the US/Candian border is perfect. The city is set up for walking and viewing the water, with wonderful ice cream, fudge and coffee shops to visit. Loved the downstairs porches and rooms for conversation or TV. The quiche and fresh berries for breakfast was a treat. We stayed one night in the Basswood room. It was very quiet and comfortable. Thanks Steve!

Room Tip: The bathroom was very spacious and clean.

The owners/hosts Steve and Elise are there to welcome you, show you around the beautiful home, point out all the amenities onsite and call out local places of interest. They could not be nicer if they tried!

The rooms are nicely appointed and sparkling clean. The grounds are beautiful and breakfast is very good. They also have a Keurig for those who cannot do without!

The accommodations are ample in this most comfortable B&B where Alyse, Steve and Sylvester
are on hand to greet you. Don't plan to check in before 3:00pm as Alyse spends at least five hours
each day ensuring the rooms are the cleanest you'll find anywhere. While McKinley House is
located a very short walk from the main streets of Clayton, it is wonderfully quiet in the evening--
a perfect place to conclude your day with some quiet moments on the wrap-around porch.
This is a top-flight B&B that will surely please you.
