“Rebooking now, looking forward to our return!”
Reviewed February 12, 2009

I went online to book another stay at the Fern Lodge, and was surprised to read a negative review. Our experience was wonderful there - we had a beautiful fall foliage weekend, complete with spectacular colors, evening boat rides accompanied by some unique wines, and we met other fascinating guests to boot! My husband and I did not mind an occasional child's toy in the common areas - we were just happy it was not our own children's toys! We also have large dogs at home, and were happy to be accompanied by the owners' dogs as we ventured down to the lake. (Happy, too, that we did not have to deal with the big wet dog! Sharon took care of that!)

The owners were welcoming, as you would expect at a B&B. They sat with us over a glass of wine at the fireplace, and offered us advice on what to do in the area. I also watched as guests that prefered more privacy were simply offered a bottle of wine and glasses, and sent on their way.

Our experience at the Fern Lodge was fantastic, and that is why we are now planning our next get-away weekend. This time we'll go for spring. And maybe even in the summer we'll bring the kids (but not the dogs) for a weekend. I bet they would love it too!

let me say that my husband and I were stunned when we arrived at the Fern Lodge. We had seen the pics on the net and new it was going to be nice, but when we arrived into this heavenly solitude it was breathtaking.

Nestled in the Adirondacks right on friends Lake made for a wonderful romantic weekend. The rooms were exquisite. massive king size bed with ulta soft bedding. A beautiful gas fireplace right in our room set the mood. My favorite was the two person jacuzzi in the room. Relaxati0n at it's finest, you have to experience it.
My husband and I love to hike and there is endless areas to hike around the property, We even were able to take a day in skiing at Gore which is only 15 minutes away
.
Sharon & Greg were such the gracious hosts. Sharon prepared each morning an amazing breakfast which was fuel for our day. Sharon also set up dinner reservations for us at the Friends lake Inn. Like I said a++.. My husband and I are looking forward to returning this summer so we can take advantage of the summer activities al0ng with a ride 0n Shar0n & Greg's electric b0at

  • Liked — too many things to mention, the rooms, the jacuzzi, the great room, the theater room & the billiards table, just to list a few

I had the pleasure of staying at Fern Lodge for a weekend this fall with my boyfriend. Sharon and Greg are very gracious and welcoming hosts who made us feel immediately at home. The guest rooms were beautifully furnished and the breakfast was delicious! I especially enjoyed the view of the lake while sitting by a roaring fire in the great room. I have also stayed at Fern Lodge in the Spring. Although the weather was quite different, the experience was just as special! The ride along the lake in the electric boat was unique. Fern Lodge is the perfect spot for a getaway in any season. I have already recommended it to all my friends, and I'm looking forward to returning in the near future.

We have stayed at the Fern Lodge several times and we love the feeling of being at home. The Lodge is spectacular--huge beams, lots of open areas and spacious suites with great views of Friends Lake. Sharon and Greg are terrific and friendly hosts and they treat you like family. They were willing to accommodate our every need, including arranging for massage therapists. The Lodge is close to many activities, including canoeing, biking, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, snowmobiling and fishing. It is a place for those who love the outdoors but also like to stay in comfort with all the amenities. Great getaway yet not too far from town. Great place to go with your loved one, family or a group of friends.

My husband and I wanted to spend our 20th wedding anniversary at a place where we could escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I contacted my travel agent and told her exactly what we were looking for and she came up with the Fern Lodge. We couldn't have been happier. We were treated like old friends, we were very comfortable and felt welcomed. The rest of our stay was a dream. We are so happy that we found this place. The atmosphere is so serene and the Lake is just gorgeous. I can't wait to go back.

The Fern Lodge is a beautiful place to go for an escape from the world. We enjoyed a great birthday weekend experience there.....Greg and Sharon were lovely hosts who went out of their way to treat us right. Sharon even arranged for private "in room" massages!! Our room was spacious and decorated in the traditional Adirondack style...we even had our own porch and fireplace. There was a steam shower and big tub in the bathroom...it was fantastic. We travel a lot and like to stay at B&B's because of the personal service.....the Fern Lodge takes this concept to whole new level! We are looking forward to our next visit.

We just returned from a short but wonderful weekend stay at the Fern Lodge. I was a little worried about booking a stay there due to some of the poor reviews given to this place, but Fern Lodge turned out to be the perfect getaway place for us. The lodge is nestled in the Adirondack mountains, right next to Friends Lake, with a boat cabin and outdoor area where we can enjoy a scenic view of the lake in the backdrop of the mountains. The house was very spacious, with a mini movie theater, sauna, several large sitting areas, and plenty of places for us to explore both inside and outside. We stayed in the Cedar Room, which had a lovely fireplace, high vaulted ceilings, a screened in porch, hot tub, and steam shower. The king-sized bed was very comfortable, with soft sheets and pillows. Bathroom was large, with luxurious robes, soft towels, and Aveda amenities. Hot tub for two and large steam shower were amazing. The outdoor porch has a view out to the mountains, but I think the other rooms have views out onto the lake. The whole place had the comfortable relaxing atmosphere of a well-appointed mountain house, complete with 2 very friendly and adorable yellow labs. Sharon was a wonderful hostess, very nice and helpful. She helped us reserve a table at the Friends Lake Inn for dinner. The morning we were supposed to leave, we overslept a little, missed breakfast, and got out of the room after the check-out time. We were expecting her to be mad at us for leaving late, but instead, she didn't even mention it, greeted us warmly, and still had breakfast warm and ready for us. Breakfast was delicious, with Belgian waffles, cinnamon apples, and fresh fruit. We sat out on the porch and enjoyed the nice autumn weather with a great view out onto the lake. They even have a boat tour every evening out in the lake, but we opted to take a little hike along the lake instead. The scenery there is magnificent, especially during the fall.

Dinner at Friends Lake Inn was okay but not as spectacular as we had hoped. The ambience is definitely very nice with candles, dimmed lighting, and a country manor setting. The waiter there, however, had an snooty attitude, and the food took a while in coming. The food was good, but the chef got a little too excited with the salt. The price was acceptable, but we have had better food and service at similar high-end restaurants.

Fern Lodge is definitely a place that would suit people looking for a laid-back country lifestyle kind of getaway. The house was not very quiet and the rooms were not soundproof, but we enjoyed that kind of social atmosphere, with people talking in the sitting area and dogs occasionally barking. Our room was exceptionally clean, but the sitting area was a little more cluttered with newspapers, some kids toys, books, etc. Again, we thought this added to the country charm of the lodge- very homey and comfortable. However, if you are the kind of person who doesn't like wet dogs or who is looking for somewhere very quiet with pristine conditions, this may not be the place for you (judging by some of the previous negative reviews). It is a perfect place for people looking for an outdoorsy, relaxing, home away from home kind of experience with warm hospitality, luxurious amenities, and an incredible setting.
