“A real treat in the Adirondacks”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

Situated in a restored 19th century historic building in Chestertown, the Bullhouse Restaurant is a great addition to the local scene. My husband and I and various friends have enjoyed its tasteful decor and tasty offerings. Lighting is low, booths are comfortable, and I have been told that soon works of local artists will be displayed on the walls. I highly recommend guacamole, prepared at the table, as an appetizer. For the main course, we have enjoyed their steaks, especially the baseball cut filet, corned beef and cabbage, bone-in swordfish, and chicken chili. I give the restaurant a full 5 stars as it is outstanding in its Adirondack setting.

“Bullhouse Restaurant”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

We have been there twice and both times the food was great. Steaks were cooked just as we ordered. The presentation of the food was very nice. The prices are good, it depends on what you order. The portions good. This will definitely be one of our go to restaurants.

“Excellent work in progress”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

When walking in the door you get a cozy feel from the fireplace and a view of the bar area which was very nice.. we were seated quickly and were able to sit at the table of our choosing, the dining room was very clean and had warm lighting but the room seemed to be lacking something on the walls. Also there was a small soda fridge on the back wall that seemed out of place , more like something you might find in a pizza parlor rather than a steakhouse.
The drink menu was full of a nice assortment of wines and craft beers, my wife got a resling that she enjoyed very much and I sampled a few craft beers that were not normally found on your average menu, I was very pleased
We ordered a queso fondue that had an option to add shrimp or Pablano peppers with it but we declined the add on... the fondue came with 2 lightly toasted tortillas (pretty much 2 soft taco shells) the cheese was a very mild warm cheese with some diced tomatoes placed on top.. we felt we prob should have gone with the shrimp or peppers as the fondue was pretty mild, we also thought chips may have been a better choice over the tortillas to add a little texture to the dish but just as we commenting on that the waitress brought over a plate of complementary chips and salsa , the salsa and chips we excellent and we almost asked for another plate.. we used the chips to finish off the fondue.
For the entree my wife ordered a 8oz top round "baseball cut" steak with the potatoes O'brian.. her steak was lean, tender, cooked med well as she ordered and most importantly delicious.
I ordered the strip steak sandwich with the garlic butter "topper" which was dynamite.. it was cooked to a perfect medium rare and it surprised me as to what a excellent cut of meat it was for a "sandwich". If thats the cut they put on a sandwich I cannot wait to go back and try out one of their "real steaks" (20oz bone in rib eye will be my choice on our return visit).. Another treat for me was the pickles that came with both meals.. they reminded me of Dinosour bbq's garlic dill pickles.. freaking awesome.. a thick, crisp slice of dill pickle with a little jalapeno/garlic bite.. Yum.
The meals also came with a small slice of jalapeno cornbread that was really dry, i think if served warm with a little butter on top it would help remedy this.
As with any new restaurant it needs just a little fine tuning and warming up but they got the important things down... great beers.. great steaks!

“Nice steak place for Chestertown”
Reviewed March 5, 2013 via mobile

Visited Bull House on a Sat night. Made required reservations week before. Atmosphere was nice with a large stone fireplace in the bar area with a warm fire on a cold night. Seated right away. We both had seafood bisque - good flavor with chunks of various seafood but needed salt. Greens salad looked amazing - fresh and green - but we both got grit. Steak entrees were cooked properly and the strip steak had very good flavor. Didn't care for the side sauces or butters. The side veggie needed some seasoning but was fresh. Overall a good place to eat but pricey. I'm sure as the place matures the seasoning will improve
