The service was excellent. It would be advised if you are going to this restaurant on a Friday or Saturday that you make reservations in advance. The food was very classic Mexican food. Everything is made here and is fresh. The atmosphere is very relaxing and has the feel of being in Mexico. They have drink specials of mixed drinks and they have a variety of bottled beer to choose from. All the staff is very friendly. It's a trip to Mexico in Otsego County. Take a ride in the country and stop at the Cantina De Salsa.

A different style for the space that was once Alex and Ika's. We arrived early but unreserved on a recent Saturday and got a table up front promptly. Drinks were good and fairly priced, and the house-made chips and salsa were just fine. Plantain app was above average, as were the tacos. Chicken and chips was a home run entree, with chicken roasted in an awesome lime-cumin soak. That $14 entree would feed two normal appetites. Service was the only issue, but a relatively minor one. Our waitress was pleasant, and was informative about the menu, but disappeared a couple of times for what seemed like lengthy periods. Other staff did pick up the slack, though.
On balance, a very good experience that came close to top-shelf. We will definitely return.

Best margarita I've had outside of San Antonio! Love the food, from the appetizers to dessert.
Great addition the the cute town of Cherry Valley.

I was excited to see an ethnic restaurant come to Cherry Valley. Well that excitement was soon lost after my experience. It was my father's birthday and we had about 6 people in our group. Our reservations were earlier in the evening, there were not many guests when we arrived. The waitress sat us at our table, then we waited...waited...and waited just for water!!! After about 15 minutes we were brought water and complimentary chips and salsa. Before we could order drinks or appetizers, our waitress quickly left the table. Another 10-15 minutes went by, waitress returns asking what we would like to order without asking our drink orders. We politely told her we were ordering drinks and appetizers first, again after 15 minutes we get our drinks which were terrible. Way too strong, we all ordered margaritas and every single one was a completely different color and all tasted different. We get our appetizers which were good, then order our entrees along with another round of drinks. Again we waited and waited and waited, did not get our drinks until the entrees came out! The food was pretty good, big portions. But because we had to wait so long for every single thing we ordred, I would not go back! At the end of our night another server came to the table and apologized for the poor service, said it was our server's first day. Okay! I have worked in the restaurant industry before. If it's someone's first night you do not give them a table of 6 without training them first and to make it worse, the girl reeked of cigarette smoke the entire night! Not pleased at all.

This is a pretty nice place and it's refreshing to find some different styles of food in the Cooperstown area. The service is nice and the food is very, very tasty. I've tried the pork soft tacos and while they were fairly messy, the flavor was spot on and quite good. They have the usual Mexican beers and margaritas and parking is in a lot across the street. It's a decent place overall and I would definitely come back here again.
