“The salt shaker that wouldn't quit”
Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

A bunch of my foodie friends excitedly tried the new Restaurant addition to the Atheneum. Namely. Bloom a farm to table experience. First off a meal with drinks and wine is about $100 per person. So when our main dish arrived with greens that seemed like the chef got involved in conversation and didn't stop pouring salt over these veggies we called our waitress 's attention to this. When she did nothing we summoned the hostess and asked her to take them to the chef to taste. She did not. Nor we're we offered another substitute Nor were we given dessert given a drink. Nothing not even sorry. So we would never dine there again. Eater beware

“Over priced, over rated”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

Dinner at Blooms at the Athenaeum Hotel was extremely disappointing. One dinner was well prepared. Another dinner was almost inedible - a few mushrooms and pieces of rabbit as a sauce over pappardelle for $36. This dish was advertised on the menu as roasted rabbit. Service was spotty and there was a high noise level in the dinning room making it difficult to carry on a conversation.

We complained to the wait staff about the rabbit entrée and were provided a complimentary dessert. However, when the chef later made the rounds speaking with other diners table. Definitely not worth the price.

“Food was very good”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

The dinner and breakfast we had while staying at the hotel were very good. We had a steak one night and enjoyed a breakfast buffet the next morning.

“Experience the Formal Dining Room”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

The formal dining room at the Athenaeum Hotel on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institute is magnificent. Excellent food prepared by a world-class chef - dining in style, meaning semi-formal style. Truly dress-up for dinner. It is fun. Try it! The dining is real white tablecloth dining the old fashioned way. Experience what it was like for travelers at the turn of the 19th Century. If you like experiences that are fine and rare, you will love dining in the formal dining room of the Athenaeum Hotel!

“Adequate food, but the adequacy of the preparation varied”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

Stayed at the Athenaeum for a conference. The package included all meals during the conference. The food was served as a buffet. The amount of food available was generous and there was sufficient variety. Some dishes were very nice while others lacked taste. A short conversation with the chef indicated that the kitchen staff needed to learn more about how to make food taste good without too much salt.
