This simply furnished, moderately priced, charming restaurant was a real surprise. It is in the small town of Chatham in Columbia County. The food was excellent, the service was equally good! They have a nice, though small wine list - but will allow you to bring your own bottle of wine for a $12 corkage fee. I highly recommend it!

This is a very good restaurant and stands alone as such, in our opinion, in Chatham, NY. You can get a good hamburger (often available with excellent local grass-fed beef) and you can get excellent entrees (including vegetarian) that are more sophisiticated. The appetizers are consistently good. The basic menu (http://www.chathamblueplate.net/index.htm) is appealingly simple, but more often than not there are interesting appetizer and main course specials. Every dish is prepared and served with care. As of this writing, reservations are accepted only for parties of five (or six?) or more. In this part of the Hudson Valley, you would need to go to Lenox, Albany, or Hudson to find restaurants as good.

We were a table of 3 finicky, well-traveled, well-experienced foodies with high expectations. We were not disappointed. I could actually taste the saffron in my ouillabaisse, which is very rare. Fish and shellfish very fresh, no grit in the mussels or clams. Companions had (1) the restaurant signature dish of meatloaf which was large and served with fresh broccoli, and (2) polenta served with huge mushrooms, grilled asparagu, tons of roasted garlic. This place is wonderful, great value for the price, and perfect service. All portions are large, and the bread comes from Our Daily Bread across the street. Who the hell needs Manhattan?

This restaurant was a real find. You can choose from an ecclectic menu. Portions are gigantic, but I suppose that has to do with Amreican expectations. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere extremely pleasant.
