“Truly Authentic!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2010

This is the most authentic Scottish inn around, well maybe besides the ones in Scotland. The owner is the best, the bar is warm and cozy and the rooms are very cool for such an old Inn. After checking in we were offered a free glass of scotch which I might add was good scotch. An absolute must see. If you like lobster ask for the lazy mans lobster!

This is our first trip to the Brae Loch but our third trip to Cazenovia. Compared to our previous lodgings, the Brae Loch was warm and welcoming. All the staff, including Duncan, the inn owners dog, were friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the Getaway package - $200 a night, including a room, dinner for 2 (good food and wonderful service!), continental breakfast and taxes was a bargain. It was such a bargain that my husband and I treated ourselves to an in room massage. The owners pride themselves on being family owned for many years and the care that is taken when providing for their guests is evident. A return trip to the Brae Loch is in our future.

We lost our resevation at an "old" establishment blocks away due to a clerical error on the reception's part. We were told "to go sleep in our car." A gentleman who was staying at the "old" place said he walked past the Brae Loch on his way to gaze at the lake and it looked very comfortable.

We met reception at the Brae Loch- told them of our pickle. A woman whose name I wish I had thought to ask for settled us into the last room they had left right away- she was warm and friendly and offered complimentary Scotch.

The room was lovely. King size canopy bed and jacuzzi. A natural feeling of peace. The housekeeping staff was quiet and thoughtful. I misplaced my purse in the ladies room and a member of the housekeeping staff located for me and locked it in hall closet so as not to interrupt my slumber. Theresa, was her name, and she returned it to me as she saw me emerge in the morning. So honest and thoughtful.

I was a terrific stay.

We made a reservation on May 18,2009, for one night in the Brae Loch Inn for August 31, 2009. At the time, the person who confirmed our reservation told us that they had two rooms available. We booked one of them. We received a phone call on August 31, 2009, that our room was double booked and that our reservation was cancelled.

The end of August is a difficult time to find available rooms due to orientation week of the many colleges in the area. The Brae Loch did let us know of a room available in a B&B across the street, but we could not find any reviews of the B&B and decided to look for another inn or hotel.

The location of this hotel is very nice. Building is very run down and in need of major overhaul. We were assigned room 18 and it felt like we entered a cave. The bathroom was dirty with mouse droppings on the floor. Food was ok.

We were very disappointed with the accommodations at the Brae Loch Inn, Cazenovia, NY. It appeared to be a quaint little B&B upon entering the building and our hopes were for a romantic getaway. Some of the negative items were mold on the shower curtain, a broken window pane, broken leather recliner chair, and sulfur water. We were even willing to chalk that up to bad luck but then we had to park a block away from the building, late at night, because they lacked reserved parking for overnight quests. In the morning we found a ticket on our vehicle. The town has an ordinance against overnight street parking, yet they fail to provide signs on the street to indicate this. In addition, the Inn has a very small notice on the check-in desk that was knocked over, and quests are expected to see this. Fortunately, we were told the owner would take care of this ticket. At last, we went downstairs for our free continental breakfast of donuts and muffins. No coffee was available.

This B&B is right up there with some of the most romantic places we have stayed. Our room came with a king size canopy bed, a reclining leather chair and all the furnishings one might find in the 19th century including a bay window with a cushioned day bench, a full length mirror on a stand and a lovely, tile fireplace. All around the room were the little touches that easily sets the mood of being far away in time and space. The bathroom was a bit modest, but clean. The room does come with TV, A/C, wi-fi and a phone.

We had the getaway package which included dinner and a continental breakfast. the dinner included soup, salad, a entree from their varied menu and coffee. The duck was crispy and moist. The combination of salmon, lamb and hagges were all well prepared and served. The dining rooms have that warm feeling of wood accented with Scottish plaids and stain glass windows with multiple fireplaces throughout.. Service was very good and our waitress was a delight to chat with about the region. The buffet breakfast included a good selection of cereals, fruits, beverages and baked goods.
