“Interesting for art & history buffs”
Reviewed September 13, 2011

Beautiful setting, helpful docent-led tours, handsome architecture. Lots of info about Cole's life and times, but very few of his paintings. Even some reproductions would have been nice.

“Step backwards in time to the 1800's”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

Thomas Cole being the Father of the Hudson River School of painting. Lovingly and beautifully restored. Tour the house and his workshop learn about how people lived back then, very educational in addition to the famous art. Also they have guided walking tours that bring you to picturesque locations like Kaaterskill clover and sunset rock where many famous paintings were inspired. The tour is great for people who would like to hike but afraid of getting lost in the woods. The tour people are very knowledge and friendly. Thomas Cole was the mentor for another famous painter Fredrick Church. For a full day of it cross the Hudson River and visit Olana, Church's very impressive and exotic home.
