The hotel was undergoing construction when we stayed there. The desk staff was friendly, but not particularly with it. The room lacked any information on the hotel or area. We had to keep calling down to the desk to find out where the exercise room was, the restaurant, etc. The room itself had seen better days. Based on all the construction paraphenalia in the general area of the room, hopefully this is a room slated to be overhauled. The bathroom was ultra tiny. Still, it's a lovely location and the town is quite charming.

The room we stayed in was very nice, I would recommend the hotel. DO NOT EAT AT NICOLES. First, we we made reservations to eat in the dining room with a lake view. They left a message before we arrived stating that the room was reserved and we would be in a different room. That was fine. We got there and it looked very nice. I ordered the inn style chicken and one of the chicken breasts was not even cooked. It was raw on the inside. My girlfriend ordered the prime rib medium well and it was so well done it was like jerky. For charging approximately $20 a plate, I had much higher expectations. Go to applebees or better yet pay a little more and go to Belhurst, which MUCH nicer!

We were very pleased with our stay at the Inn On the Lake.

We were able to get a good price for a beautiful 2 room suite overlooking the lake. Of course the time of year and the fact that it was during the week helped to get such a great room.

We loved the room, and the bed was very comfortable. The lounge was comfortable, and the bartenders friendly.

Our only complaints were a smart mouthed waiter who must have thought he was amusing; housekeeping never left shampoo (hubby prefers using hotel shampoo); and one day not being left any bath towels.

Other than that, we enjoyed the facility, and would consider going back again if we were in the area.

The bartenders also reccomended some EXCELLENT restaurants!

In all my years of travel, this is the most unfortuante experience I have ever had. First, we were told that we would have a room with a view of the water, and we did...... the pool! Because the hotel was booked, we could not change rooms. However, that is nothing compared to what came next! When we awoke the following morning, there were literally THOUSANDS of ants crawling on the nightstand, accross the headboard, under the clock, in the trash can and accross our pillows!!!! We immedately called for help, which took about 45 minutes despite the infestation. When the head of maintanence arrived, he did not have anything with him to remove the ants as their only solution (after 45 minutes of thought) was to spray the room down with RAID, while we were still in it!! We did not allow them to do that, and suggested that perhaps they get a vacuum and first remove the infestation, then clean the surfaces until they were able to spray the room safely. They left for another 20 minutes and returned with a vacuum, but it did not have any attachments, so it took them a few minutes to figure out that they could not sweep the walls! So, they left again for 20 minutes, and retured with the tools to remove the ants. When they pulled out the nightstand, the entire wall was solid ants. During this endless process, we began calling the front desk looking for a manager. However, we were informed that there was no manager on duty, and NOBODY had any authority to aid us! Finally we were told that the manager would be in no later than 9:30am. At 10:15am, we went to the front desk and informed the hotel clerk that we felt we should receive some sort of discount for waking up with ants crawling in our heads, and he in informed us that he wouldn eed to "call" the manager because he was not at the property yet. He told us that he was not authorized to make any adjustments, yet he had just offered a $30.00 adjustment to the man checking out in front of us because he had received a Wake-Up Call at midnight. After about 10 minutes behind the wall, and much muffled conversation, he again emerged and informed us that he could not reach the manager (Jeremy), and that they had no idea where he was....so no adjustment. (and basically I had imagined the conversation 3 inches in front of me regarding the Wake-Up Call!). We waited at the front desk for another 20 minutes, and finally tracked down the original maintanence manager, who miraculously found the missing manager, behind the desk. (He had just that second walked in......through an invisible door since we were stationed at the desk entrance(s)). The manager went on to tell us that his desk people lied, that they did have authority to help us, that this was the first he had heard of our problem (yet later he slipped up and told us that he was well aware of our ant issue), and he "couldn't understand what we wanted him to do about it." After another 10 minutes, he did indeed comp our room, but did not offer an apology, and basically had the attitude that we were a major pain in his day.

If you are heading to the Canandaigua Inn anytime soon, take along your bug spary and a big wad of cash, as they wanted an outrageous amount of money for my "water' view and ant visitation.

We stayed 1 night at the Inn, and we did have an excellent view from our room which looked straight out onto the lake which was lovely. It was clean, good size and very relaxing. Not sure about the issue over the size of the bathrooms, I did everything I needed too, but I've seen bigger and I've seen smaller. ( if you want a huge bathroom go to Glenora on seneca lake - they are massive)

We managed to check in early and the staff were all very helpful. If you've been to the wineries they even give you a cork screw if you've forgotten one. The newspaper in the morning is nice.

We ate in the restaurant for breakfast only and this was a good hearty meal.

We ate dinner at the pub/bar near the inn which was good for us as we just wanted some beer and some wings. Other people said the italian restaurant in the town had excellent food too. We did have a look around the town, some quant gift shops but they all smelt very strangely!

Overall a decent clean place to stay, nothing ourstanding but good for its rating.

My husband and I each work long hours with schedules that do not allow us much time to enjoy time off together. Canandaigua is just an hour away from us....and we decided to spend our 32nd anniversary at the Inn on the Lake. It was beautiful and relaxing. The suite was old but very clean. The bed linens were exceptional and for the most part it was very quiet. The accessibilty to the lake to just hang out and have a drink was great. There are 2 pools....one outside and a smaller enclosed one with a jacuzzi. Our only complaint was the 8AM wake-up call from the guy who felt the need to mow the lawn right outside our window ! We have had an exceptionally dry few weeks.....and the grass was pretty sparse. -must be he gets paid if it needs it or not.
All in all, we would definitely recommend the Inn to anyone who wishes to enjoy quality time....and we will definitely return in the future!

The Canandaigua Inn is in a lovely setting by the the beautiful Canandaigua Lake. It is dog friendly and we were even allowed to bring our dogs sit in the outside eating area near the water! The room we were first assigned, however, looked on to a dumpster and our move request was handled a bit ungraciously. The Inn has all the amenities including a nice restaurant on the water with great views. The rooms deserved a mixed review. The basic bedroom section, a/c, tv, was clean and just fine. The bathroom was atrocious. It was too small and you really felt like you were in cramped trailer's bathroom. The tub was fine except it did not drain. I am sure this was just a problem for this room and we reported it. But still the basic bathroom was really tiny. The Inn offers complimentary coffee and newspapers. The town is a charming one and the Inn is located adjacent to a SPECTACULAR park with nice walking trails, good restaurants with pleasant views. Would we stay there again? If we had the dogs, we probably would. Without the dogs, no unless there are rooms with more spacious bathrooms.
