“Loved Everything About This Place”

This is a must go to place if you are ever in the Canandaigua area.

On the main floor, there is a tasting room that serves, white, red, desert liquors and beer flights. The beer flight of five different beers cost $7.00 and the dry red wine flight of five cost $8.00.

There is a store that has various wine accessories you can buy along with dipping sauces, jams & jellies (some are out for samples) and various wine books.

Also on the main floor is a teaching kitchen. There are classes that have been scheduled for the year and you can sign up to attend right up until the start of the class if there is room.

The main floor also has a teaching room. The day we attended there was a class happening on what to pair with Riesling. The class had already started or we would have gone.

There is a customer service counter with two very young ladies that didn't welcome us when we walked in. I approached the to inquire on what was what and were things were. Pleasant but probably too young to be sitting there only because there is a lack of awareness to what is happening around them.

The entire upstairs is home to the Bistro and bar with indoor and outdoor seating. Happy Hour was from 5-7 PM and they offered $2.00 every glass of wine and $1.00 glasses of beer. You can sit outside overlooking the lake or inside. We choose to sit outside and it was awesome because it overlooked the marina. We sat and watched the boats, jet skis and kayaks and was a good setting for people watching.

The food was very good. While we did not have a full meal, we had two appetizers (the meat & various cheese trays and the arancini with our wine after our wine tasting event. It's hard to offer an opinion on the food when the only thing we had was apps. The service was good, a bit slow at times but there was only one server for a lot of people.

My only regret for this place is that we didn't get to attend a class. This was a great way to spend our afternoon and we made the most out of what was there and we had a great time.

“A Return Visit a Must”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

We had the privilege of being introduced to Canandaigua and in turn the New York Wine and Culinary Center by friends/clients who are locals. We had the opportunity to taste New York State wines in the tasting room, shop a little and enjoy lunch on the patio.
My husband and I ordered pizzas for lunch, my choice was the margherita (mozzarella and basil) his was a little more adventurous and ordered the New York Supreme, which had an herb base with salami, mozzarella, and an egg cooked in the middle. Neither of us ate more than half and wished we had just shared one.
Our guests ordered the roast beef sandwich and a burger, which they both raved about.

We vowed to return someday for dinner, experience some of the events within the center and explore this area of the finger lakes region.

“Great food and good service”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

A local perch special, lightly breaded, was lovely, crisp and tasty. Squash stuffed with ratatouille with delightfully spicy. Vegetables were wonderful, local, delicious. Skip the cheesecake and go for the ice cream. Compared to the several other places we've dined in the area, this is a top pick.

Snobby environment. Just people going thru the motions. Nothing special. The setting is nice. No one was there to show you around or help you understand what what happening.

I have wanted to try the bistro since taking a cooking class at the wine and culinary center a year ago. Four of us decided to try it for dinner on a recent Saturday night and were disappointed. Our waiter was very nice, but seemed a bit in the weeds as our dinner progressed. The food seemed cooked well technically but lacked any flavor. One dish, seafood linguine was supposed to have a spicy tomato sauce, but there was no spice and it tasted moe like a bland, watered down tomato broth. The braised short ribs were cooked well but lacked any flavor. For desert we shared a berry basil crime brûlée which was in-edible, with a bitter aftertaste. We noticed the table next to us didn't eat their's either. It's a shame because the place is beautiful and I like the local food ethic, I think they just need to up their game a bit with the food.
