“Good Visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2010

Arrived for a girls weekend on the tail end of a major snow storm that hit the area. Check in service was very prompt, front desk staff was attentive especially the young man who took all our bags to the room.
The on site shops were all closed on Friday. All except one shop opened on Saturday, but not until late morning/early afternoon. Maybe this was because of the storm, and staff were not able to make it in. Overall, staffing did seem a bit short, but this most likely was due to the storm.
The room was a standard double room and the bathroom was quite large with a nice double sink vanity. The room was clean, but a bit dated and the mattresses were way too soft (they should probably be replaced). Housekeeping did a nice job tidying up our room and provided us with an ample supply of bath towels and wash clothes.
The pool and spa area was nice, plenty of lounge chairs and towels. Attendants were present each time we used the facilities. The sauna (located upstairs from pool area) took a while to heat up and never really got that warm.
The game room definitely needs some TLC and it was a little dirty. A lot of the equipment needs to be replaced (torn covers on the pool table, shuffle board poles bent, ping pong table worn, etc.). Also, staff was pretty much non existent.
Entertainment on Friday night was a comedian, we enjoyed the show. There was a singer on Saturday night (nice voice), but we just weren't into it and only stayed for a few songs.
The best part of the weekend was the food and the wait staff. Breakfast was great, you could pretty much get whatever you wanted, pancakes, waffles, omelets, cereal, fresh fruit, etc. and they had this wonderful coffee cake on the table. Dinner was wonderful, plenty of food (you will not leave hungry) and not one complaint in our group. Desserts were good, just not on the same level as dinner. The dining room service was outstanding. The maitre d Gerardo, and our waiters Jose and Angel were all wonderful, very friendly and accommodating. Their service was exemplary!

Just returned from a week vacation with my family at Villa Roma. Although i was looking forward to our trip, my teenage son was convinced he would be bored all week. Fortunately, there was so much to do at your resort, my son actually had a really good time! There was so much to do we stayed busy every day and enjoyed every minute of your trip.

I would highly recommend Villa Roma for a great family get-away and it seemed to be a wonderful place to celebrate birthdays, special occasions and family reunions. The place is filled with "happy people"..... everyone was busy having a great time! Thank You Villa Roma!

Just spent 3 nights (Thurs-Sun) at the Villa Roma at the end of President's Day week. There was a mix of good and bad, therefore the average rating.

The food was very good and plentiful. Walked out of the dining room stuffed every night. Staff in the dining room was nice and very patient in dealing with our large group - with many children. Service could have been a little quicker though as two-and-a-half hours to sit in the dining room is too long, especially with restless kids.

The rooms overall were fine. Clean, decent enough size (bathrooms were huge), and beds were okay. Mattresses probably should be replaced, but I've been on worse at other hotels. You could tell it's an old facility but they have at least made an attempt to keep things "fresh". One thing that sends a bad message is that the TV in our room was small, about 30 years old and working poorly. Yet our friends (directly across the hall in the same class of room), had a brand new, large flat panel with a built-in DVD player. This tells you that they only replace things with modern equipment when the old ones completely go. All rooms should be updated together.

As for the amenities/activities...here is the biggest problem. Our first day, the pool was way over-chlorinated. We, and others complained and to their credit, they seemed to rectify it, as it was much better the next 3 days. One night, the "attendants" working at the pool closed the pool 15 minutes earlier than it was suppose to close. Apparently, this is a common practice at Villa Roma because the next day, they did the same thing at the sports building where they had set up mini "fun park" (as they called it) with a rock wall, bounce house, and giant slide. Fifteen minutes prior to the end time, they threw everyone out (even though you had to pay extra for each child who got a bracelet, although there were kids without bracelets partaking as it was under-staffed to properly police things). When my wife complained at check-out about the 15 minutes practice that was going on, the manager at least seemed appalled and credited us back double the money we spent on the "fun park". The snow tubing was poorly run by the attendants there as well and there should have been a few more attendants to keep things orderly. So that was also a recurring theme. Activities were under staffed and who was there were students who couldn't give a crap about what they were doing. Also, pool tables and ping-pong tables could use an upgrade. And most of the activities involved an additional fee. I'd rather have my package price increased a little and have more things included.

The nightly entertainment was poorly planned. You know it's President's week and the place is loaded with kids. They should have have booked kid-friendly entertainment for this week - not a couple of bad lounge singers and a foul-mouthed comedian. Bar/lounge prices were a bit over the top except for Happy Hour.

Lastly, there is an interesting dynamic at Villa Roma with regards to the guests. You have your regular "hotel" guests - who make up the minority of guests. And then there are the timeshare folks - who are in the majority. Since the timeshare people (who for this week seemed to be primarily be families) presumably have been coming there year after year after year.....they kind of act like the hotel guests are intruders. There's lots of obnoxious "tweens" and early teenagers hanging out in the game room and arcade area and roaming the walkways who act like they own the place. So there is an element that is kind of a turn-off for hotel guests.

In the end, I'm willing to give Villa Roma another shot. Only minor changes and improvements would go a long way here. Such as, improving the staff in both quality and quantity. Similarly, it won't take much in the opposite direction to make me write this place off entirely.

Yes, the main front desk area was renovated, but the bulldozer must have broken down before they could demolish the rest of the resort.

I experienced Dirty/Outdated Rooms (circa 1978), The pool area and game room were disgusting. In-experienced Staff, Average Food. The resort is NOT handicap or stroller friendly.

Furthermore, the resort is Overpriced. For 2 Adults and 2 Children the price for a 2 night stay including Breakfast and Dinner was about $900.

Check out the other reviews from average to terrible, they are RIGHT ON!

My husband and I just got back yesterday from a 2 night stay at Villa Roma.

We made our reservations several weeks ago. We just wanted to get away for some R&R and several friends recomended Villa Roma to us.

We were contacted by Villa Roma after we made our reservation because they wanted to make sure we would be happy with our stay. The hotel had very few reservations during our time period which meant that some of the dining and entertainment services would not be available or scaled back. We really appreciated this call and decided to stay anyway since we had been hoping to have some quiet time together.

Our one bedroom room was very spacious and could hold 6 people easily. It had 2 large double beds and a pull out couch. It was clean and new. There was a wet bar which had a nice long counter, coffee maker and fridge. The only things lacking were a full lenght mirror and a table to eat at. (FYI: the coffee maker uses pods and makes one cup at a time)

You could tell the lobby, our room, Garden Cafe and Marty's lounge we newly decorated. The pictures on their website are absolutely spot on. We never had meals in their highly touted main dining room. All our meals were in the Garden Cafe. Most of the other indoor bars, showroom and snack shops were closed probably because of the lack of other guests.

Because we were on their meal plan which included breakfast and lunch. We had the pick of the menu in the Garden Cafe. The food in the Garden Cafe can be compared to NYC Diner style. It was plentiful and good. They do have take-out service which we used for our desserts. It was not bad service. All the staff were very nice just a little inexperienced.

We had lunch at Ronnie's deli which is a short walk from the main building. They have good pizza and made to order sandwiches. This place could use some decorating but is basically a small grocery outpost with pizza & a deli.

We were a little disapointed to not have dinner in their main dining room. Our friends that had recomended the resort to us had said this would be the highlight of the trip but I guess because of the low occupancy it was not available.

The large jacuzzi in the pool area was hot and clean. But the lighting in the pool area could use some upgrading. The indoor pool area is very nicely decorated but some additional decorative lighting would really cheer the place up and be a big plus.

There are 2 indoor fun buildings. The one attached to the main building has an arcade, a party room, Bocci courts, pool tables and many other fun things to do. Also the equipment was in good condition. The other indoor building which is right across the road from the main building, has a large fitness club, bowling, racketball and tennis. Some of these activities have small fees attached.

Directly accross from the main building is an outdoor water park that would make any kid happy.

We didn't take advantage of the outdoor winter sports because there was an all day terrible rainstorm but it is right next to the main building. The hotel did their best because of the weather. There were organized games thru-out the hotel during the day and movies in Marty's lounge in the evenings.

All in all this was a very relaxing couple of days. This resort is certainly geared to be a great place for families. We may try the resort again during the more active season.

I still have every minute spent in this hotel. Its in the midst of all greens. and fountain at the centre has given me the best picture of my time.

This hotel has got everything , from a gymnasium to basket ball, there are woods all around the property and we went for hiking too. the swimming pool is neat.

The dance floor was just fun. The meetings were held in different halls all the time making us wait for more. The food as i mainly wanted a vegetarian was available and yes thats the place where i had my first glass of whine.

great feel and great people around.
And mind you theres a miniature golfground just 15 minutes away from the hotel. Cant forget that too!

This is a great hotel for family trips. My husband and I came with my daughter and her husband and their twin boys, age 4. We had a one bedroom villa and my daughter and her family had a two bedroom, two bathroom. The livingroom was very spacious. My only criticism is that the television, although very good quality was a bit small for the size of the livingroom. The view was fabulous because we were high up on a hill. Because of the children we did have to drive to the main hotel for meals. The main hotel lobby is beautiful and the diningroom very lovely too. We enjoyed everything. The food was plentiful and there were meals geared to the children. We took the kids bowling and we had a lot of fun. However, utilizing some of the games in the gameroom was a little challenging. We took the kids swimming and they enjoyed it! Another criticism is that there is only one toilet in the ladies room (I don't know about the men's room) and at one point, there was a problem with that toilet. Otherwise, the children had great ful with the pool slide and never tired of it. The only problem was that there were no organized activities for the children. I didn't realize when I made the reservation that camp had ended and there was nothing going on for the children, so aside from the bowling and swimming there was not only nothing to do at the hotel for the children (although there was a small playground, but even in the surrounding area, nothing for children was going on.
