We decided to try Matthew's on Main in Callicoon while staying at the Villa Roma Resort just about 10 minutes away. The outside is pretty non-descript, but once we stepped inside, we were impressed by the vintage art and modern decor. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who showed us to an indoor table, although outside deck seating was an option. For a Saturday night, I was surprised that there were only three or four other tables occupied. The menu offered a nice, diverse selection. We had a couple of salads, a burger, and the ribs. Our servers were very attentive as was the hostess who checked on us multiple times asking if we needed anything else. The salads were average, as was the burger. The ribs were very good and were served with a nice piece of corn bread. The desserts were home made, and absolutely delicious. We had a coconut cake with chocolate frosting and an orange cake, which was a family recipe of the owner's grandma. Both were fresh and very good.
Overall, we were happy with the experience at Matthew's. It was obvious that the staff cared about the diners' experience. The food was better than expected, and the desserts were worth a second trip. There are not that many restaurant choices in the area, and this was one we were happy with and would return to next year.
