The only reason I did not give this five stars is because of their prices. For the portions I feel it is a bit over the top. However, if you don't mind paying 25.00 for Salmon it would be an excellent choice.

We took a day trip to Callicoon based upon a recommendation from a friend. We had our dog with us and were happy that Matthew's was very welcoming to her. Of course we had to eat out on the back patio with her and were very happy to find out that on a very hot day (91 degrees)the whole patio was shaded by a large tree so that we were very comfortable. I don't know why a previous reviewer complained about having to walk past a bar populated by questionable characters, because there is a back entrance that goes directly up to the patio. We were pleasantly surprised by the interesting variety of foods offered. We order guacamole which was served with freshly made tortilla chips. The Teriyaki chicken wings were very good. We shared a panini with chicken, roasted peppers, provolone with pesto sauce which we really loved. The waitress was very friendly to us and most importantly, our dog and provided excellent service. We drove about an hour and a half to get to Callicoon and Matthew's and would definitely be happy to drive that distance to eat at Matthew's again.

most people never heard of Callicoon, small town 2 hours ( without traffice) north west of New york on the Delaware River. You have no idea where you are when you get there. it's so quaint with such a feeling of being in the far west with an old and not running train station, an abandonned hotel, small stores ( very few but nice) and Matthews. The place to hang out and to eat good food. there is a nice terrace ..the menu changes, his hamburgers are always delicicious but so are his fish, steaks and all the great dailys. He has been opened 10 years and we never had a bad meal. His wife dominique is the perfect hostess.

Little out of the way Town, Great Chef & Kitchen. Found this off the beaten path jewel while visiting family in the area. Quants Atmosphere, Cheers type Friendly Bar Scene, Open but Intimate Dinning Room, Great Deck in Season, Down Town Menu Brimming with Originality and Flair , Served with Pride. Matthew the Chef deserves the title, a Talented Innovator who hits all the right notes. Domineque, the Hostess with the mostest make you feel welcome and treats you like old family friends. Service on the mark. An Up Martini of perfection, Momas Deserts w/ a Sambuko and coffee a timeless finish. Our go to place during our periodic visits on and off season.

I USE to visit here several times during the summer months for dining on the outside deck, but the prices went even higher ! Plus I feel uncomfortable passing through the bar area to get into the back dining area. There are some shady ,drunk guys always gawking at me and my girlfriends. YUCK! Better prices and places in this small town!
