I am a Bronx native, so I grew up with Mario's in my vocabulary. Much to be desired, don't get too excited, here is the good and bad:

Nice atmosphere
Great Arthur Avenue bread
Lobster Ravioli are usually delish
Decent menu selection, including appetizers but entrées are a la' carte
Interesting history of patrons

Slow and inattentive service
Food is just not up to snuff, poor serving sizes and taste is "eh" at best
Drink sizes are shamefully small
Incredibly overpriced for your portion sizes
Hard to park, so valet
Chef Ramsey needs to come and update this location for so many reasons
Gets incredibly crowded, especially weekends

Eat here once and get it out of your system, chances are you won't go back, unless Ramsey visits after your dining experience. Many other restaurants which will not leave you as disappointed.

I love this restaurant and its food for many reasons BUT last Tuesday our waiter left much to be desired! Not even their amazing thin crust pizza could redeem his actions. We were seated by the owner and given menus. Maybe 10 minutes later our waiter came by and asked if we wanted a hot antipasto but neglected to take the drink order and walked away. When he came back we ordered drinks. In his defense, the restaurant was crowded but we WERE NOT THE LAST TABLE TO BE SEATED that evening. He dropped off the drinks and walked away. I flagged him down to ask what the mushrooms were stuffed with. He answered and walked away. To make a long story short (or not) that same scenario happened twice more. The food as always was amazing BUT our waiter.... We were the last table to leave the restaurant.

I would love for Chef Ramsey to come and rescue this restaurant and bring it back to the good old days and what Mario Migliuci originally made it out to be. Yes, we all know it's been a landmark in the Bronx since 1919. Joe Migliuci the owner is very charming but the food was simply not to the snuff anymore, the decor looks tire and not impressive. It looks as if "Chef Mike" (microwave) took care of our order, it was tasteless and not fresh looking. I can't believe someone in a previous review said the star of the meal was the bread. Well guess what? they didn't have any to serve the day we were there. It is a few blocks away from the Botanical garden, Bronx Zoo, but not worth it.

Old style Italian restaurant a few minutes away from Bx. Botanical Garden, Bx. Zoo and Fordham University. Food is Italian American, the way the first immigrants made it, i.e. a red sauce restaurant. It can get very crowded, be sure to make reservations. Prices are reasonable, portions are large and they will try to accommodate special orders. There is valet parking in the evenings. If you can get there before an early dinner, be sure to take advantage of the Italian stores in the neighborhood, wonderful butchers, fresh fish and bakeries. Go there before the neighborhood disappears.

The ziti was very good. The Chicken Marsala was fine, but the Italian bread was the star of the meal. The service was okay, too. The room the group was put in was big enough.
