“Does it deserve to be one of the top 10 zoos in the world? I am not so sure....”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

Visited the Bronx zoo yesterday and we had a great time, but it does leave you thinking - does this zoo really deserve to be one of the Top 10 zoos in the world??? The travel from Manhattan to the zoo was incredibly easy and the Express Bus Bxm 11 stops just outside the zoo entrance. We went on a Wednesday and bought the Total Experience tickets for USD 12.95 (value for money at that price). It was not regular school holidays, the zoo was empty - no crowds. The zoo is vast, well-laid out with lots of facilities for rest rooms and eating joints at various spots. If you needed any help or information, there were people to assist you as well. We especially liked the Jungle World, Madagascar, World of Birds. The Tiger Mountain, the Baboon Reserve, the bears (they were especially active!), the Reptile House were very nice too. There were a couple of things which were disappointing - in certain sections, the animals were missing - no deer, no giraffe, no zebra, no rhino...all we saw was stones and grass. In yet another section it was the quantum of animals visible - just a couple of gorillas in the entire Congo section. There are no animal shows or active feeding timings throughout the day. There were just 3 feedings yesterday - the sea-lion, the penguin and the bird buffet. So, one is actually left with a mixed-bag. Not disappointed but not overwhelmed either. We took the entire day to see the zoo.

As compared to the Singapore zoo, this zoo is definitely disappointing. The setting of the natural habitat, the number of animals, the animal shows - for all the above factors - the Singapore zoo is at an altogether different platform. For any international tourist who is making a special visit to the Bronx zoo - you might want to keep your expectations low. Moreover, as compared to what it offers, its priced pretty steeply. On any other day (other than a Wednesday), the total experience ticket would cost USD 35 for an adult and USD 25 for a child. So, if I were to think to myself if the zoo is worth USD 120 for a family for 4 - the answer is no-way! Its great for a city zoo where one can just hop onto a bus for a great outing - both my son and I had a great time. Is the zoo world class? No - it still has a long long way to go....

“Easy day trip from Manhattan”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

I visited here in April 2013 with my mother who was visiting from Dallas. Worth the $29 per person for a day visit. I recommend a 4 hour trip.

The Good:
-Easy to get to. Less than an hour commute from Manhattan
-Large, comfortable habitats for the animals. Healthy treatment.
-Pretty, park-feel layout of zoo
-Huge assortment of exotic animals
-Clean bathrooms.

The Bad:
-Need better signage in the park! Easy to go wrong way.
-The tram takes FOREVER to start moving. Employees in no hurry to load the trains. Just walk.
-In MANY of the exhibits, you can't see the animals. Their habitats provide for places for them to hide out of sight.
-Very few healthy food choices.

“Best Zoo Ever”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

This is the greatest zoo I have ever been to. I just suggest you don't go on the free day because it is so crowded. Otherwise it's a great zoo with so much to see - plan on spending the entire day there in oreder to see as nuch as possible.
