You could spend all day there. There are different types of special species specific houses to visit. The Rain Forest is amazing and well maintained. There are fun activities and even a few rides as well as a butterfly garden (in warm seasons).

“love that zoo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2012

We stayed in Bronx Zoo today. It wasn't that much crowded and you could see everything without waiting for an eternity. Maybe it's better to visit the zoo on a saturday or sunday instead of a weekday because some schoolclasses visit the zoo during the week.
So, the zoo is amazing! It has a big variety of animals and some of them I've never seen in reality in my life. You can do lots of things if you buy the total experience ticket, which is 4 $ more than a normal ticket. Buy them online and you'll save 10%.
With a total experience ticket you can take, for example, the Asian Monorail which is an awesome trip in a small "train" above the animals (it's not so high, I'm afraid of height but I didn't have any problems).
In the zoo you can also buy some foods which aren't the cheapest. Therefor, bring your own snacks. You can buy a Souvenir Cup (it's like the stuff you get for take away drinks, it's plastic and with a straw) for 9 $ and you get unlimited and free refills for the whole day!!

“Overall, exciting and fun”

The zoo is quite large and you need one full day to see each and every animal out there. We missed elepha.nts, but were happy to see giraffes, peacocks, tigers and polar bears.
The facilities are good; planning should be done to make at-least one round of the zoo with the shuttle service and children should go for the Bug Carousel.
I think the food was expensive; over all it was a fun day

“Great fun and lots to see”

We took our three year old to the Bronx Zoo. We got the Total Experience tickets from their website at bronxzoo.com at a lower rate. This gives access to all kinds of stuff. We forgot the stroller but rented one for $10 at the zoo. If you have a toddler, a stroller is a must, lots of walking. The kids zoo is also a must for the little ones, it really is designed for the little ones, my son loved it, so did we. The best time to go is during the week, not too crowded, but there are special shows on the weekend. Parking costs $13 for the day. The Asian Monorail is really cool, you get to see alot from a whole different angle.

The giraffs and rhinos were spectacular. But it seems the lions and tigers were shy. The bear was magnificent. There were quite a lot of peafowls all over the place hanging with the crowd, really beautiful. It really is a great way to spend time with the kids or just getting out for a day. We would take him again when he is older and could enjoy even more of the zoo.

“Great collection”

I went in December. That was not the smartest move, because alot of the animals wouldn't show. It's anyway a great place, if you like animals.
