“Quaint Enclave in the Bronx”

City Island reminds you of the quaint little towns in Maine. On weekends, there is a street festival where one can buy all sorts of silver and turquoise jewelry, scarves, ethnic dresses and reasonably priced art. It is a wonderful experience for the family.

“A Different Perspective of New York”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2014

City Island is both an island & a neighborhood, in the far north-eastern corner of the Bronx, & of New York City. The atmosphere is very different from anywhere else in New York; it has been likened to a New England fishing village. All houses are detached private homes, including some historically interesting ones; as everywhere in this city, it's worth bringing a copy of the architectural guidebook AIA GUIDE TO NEW YORK CITY. The approach from the only bridge is quite scenic. The first thing you'll see on the island is the beginning of a waterfront walkway, but the beginning is all there is. This reviewer saw a South American monk parakeet in a tree here. The main drag, City Island Boulevard, has many shops, including stores selling fishing supplies; here are also many seafood restaurants, with delectable food - but beware: they're expensive! It's also worth walking on some of the little side streets; nowhere is the ocean more than a few minutes' walk away. At the eastern end of Ditmars Street you have a view of forbidden Hart Island, New York's cemetery for the poor & those whose remains are not claimed; don't even think of going there! To the north you see High Island, which today only houses some antennas; City Islanders often trespass by crossing the closed bridge.

Growing up in the Bronx, City Island was like "Going to the country" I have always like the small town atmosphere, No bigger then two stories the quint cottage's were a treat from the six and more story buildings I was use too..great Restaurants on the Long Island sound, as a child I would say they were better quality and price then they are today..but still a must if you are visiting the Bronx or New York City, Charming ,Safe, a walking island off of the Bronx..A special place to visit .,so enjoy

“All restaurants”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013 via mobile

As a native New Yorker I've been going to City Island ever since a kid. Today's City Island is not the same. All restaurants in my opinion are a rip off. Been to every single one of them. Known for their lobster, shrimp, and fish. It is a charming town nestled in old fishing town community.
Finally, be aware of their surf and turf. It's nothing to brag about and you pay through your nose. If I had to recommend one it would be "Sea Shore". Since it attacks a certain clientele the owners think everyone's an idiot. Wayyyyyy too expensive!!!!

“Summer Time Fun!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Even though over the years the food and drinks prices have risen, everything is still great. I never had a bad plate of food and the drinks are still very much strong. But if you go further down the strip to either Tony's or Johnny's, you will find that the drinks are even stronger for a fraction of the cost.
