This is the perfect place to visit to get away from the Big City and see nature. The different exhibits are always spectacular. I always enjoy going to the Orchid Exhibit - one of my favorite.s

My wife really wanted to go to the NYBG on our trip, had read all about it. Cost was high $50, for the two of us. But we got to see the holiday train show too, so it was not to far out of line. Easy to get to from the train from Central Station, it even has its own stop. Even though it was winter we enjoyed walking the paths and seeing the plants and trees that were still out including one autumn blooming cherry that made it look like spring.

The ginger bread area is for small children and not much else. The train exhibit would be more accurately called the natural replica model display with a few trains added to the display. Not really an exhibit about trains, more focused on the small models of famous places and buildings with a few trains to tie them together, but with that said it was fun.

Forget the Tram unless you have disabilities, the park is small and it is great to get around and read the signs and explore all the little paths that wind around each area. All in it was worth the side trip but the cost was high compared to other things we did in the city for a winter visit.

The. holiday Train Show gets better every year. The use of flowers, seeds, bark, etc. to create amazing models of NY landmark & historic buildings. It is especially stunning after twilight when the buildings are illuminated. The addition of edifices outside of NY in the artist studio was very effective. This should be a family tradition for children of all ages. Follow up with dinner at Dominic's on Arthur Ave & you have 2 of the many things that make the Bronx great.
Becoming a member makes this visit free and you can come back to see the many fantastic exhibits throughout the year ( eg the orchids)
