“Tuesday Hostess/Manager Needs Training”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

BOBBY VAN'S NEEDS TO BE SCHOOLED ON SERVICE/ATTITUDE AND TEACHER JUST ARRIVED. GET RID OF THE HOSTESS/MANAGER UP FRONT WITH ATTITUDE who needs to draw THE RED LINE about EVERYTHING.

Let me start by saying that I've LIVED in The Hamptons for almost 17 years and I'm a fan of Bobby Van's and have been for years. The food is great but lately, the SERVICE has been suffering. It's one thing to flub an order but TREATING FOLKS LIKE CHILDREN because it's Prix Fixe night is uncalled for as well as upsetting.

We dine here all Summer and deal with the crowds and the poor service because the food is great. You can't find a better Steak out here along with a choice of wine. This past Tuesday, we decided to eat at BVs and were surprise to learn they had a fixed menu throughout the week THAT INCLUDED ribeye. We went for it, a great deal at $27. On top of that we ordered a bottle of wine but I'm getting ahead of myself.

The crabby hostess (long black hair, in her late 50s) met us at the door and shoved us into a corner table by the bar. We didn't mind, we didn't have reservations. All went really well with our waitress but when it came to dessert, we were given the TINIEST piece of pie we'd ever seen. We realized it was limited menu but this was ridiculous. We asked the waitress for larger pieces since they were literally the size of a macaroon. She brought it to the NASTY hostess/manager who decided to try and humiliate us into eating them after she had practically breathed all over it and touched it. We had to DRAW THE RED LINE with her and outright laughed as she continued to convince us that there was nothing wrong with it. At that point we pulled the "We're resident's and eat here at least once a week" card and at that point she went back to get us a decent sized piece. WHAT A SHAME THAT WE HAD TO GO THROUGH ALL THAT JUST TO BE SATISFIED CUSTOMERS. How much could that pie really cost them?

In the end, we'll eat at BVs again; no doubt. Food is fantastic and so is the scene. BOTTOM LINE? DON'T count on your past reputation and those days when folks in The Hamptons didn't have a dining choice. With so many NEW and HIPPER PLACES OPENING up every Summer, it's just a matter of time before folks move on, if you continue to treat your LOYAL customers this way. I know I will.

“Expensive”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Although the food was very good, it is far too costly to provide any value. Even the bar menu with drinks was costly. Better for couples. Not a family environment.

“steak joint”

Good location, but in competition with Almond & Pierre's which beat it hand's down for culinary delight. If you want steak this place will do the trick. Decent service.

“Go for the specials”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

I dine here several times a season. Consistently good service & food. Might be the second best steak house in the Hampton's, just behind the Palm in East Hampton. Always enjoy whatever the specials of the day are. Go Tuesday for Lobster night if you can (all year).

Staff attentive, especially so if you eat at the bar as I have done on several occasions. Given it's location across the street from the Jitney stop, a good place for dinner before heading back to NYC.

“THE WORST”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

I

We went there for lunch. We were terribly dissapointed. The lobster salad is better at Panera's. We were made to feel by the waiter that we were not worthy of eating there. I asked how much one of the specials were. I was told he really didn't know and was never given an answer. Never again. The food was less than memorable
