For those in the Utica area, this is the place to go for some great ice cream in the summertime. Mercers is a north country tradition and it is some of the absolute best. It's a one room shop that also carrries some local goods, like NY cheese (Lowville), meats (Croghan Bologna), egg nog (all year!), maple syrup, half moon cookies, etc. But the ice cream is what you want. A huge scoop with all the toppings. We usually go for the soft serve, but you should try their unique wine ice cream. It's really phenomenal.
This is a hidden gem and we make a trip up north once a year and specifically drop by Mercer's for a treat. If you are heading north on Route 12, make the time to stop by- it is just past Boonville on the right hand side of the road. Look for the big, red, adirondack chair.
