The Sagamore Resort

Our visit started with my daughter looking at the Bolton Landing area and saying that the place is 'stupid gorgeous.' Our dinner and breakfast the following morning were fabulous and an included boat tour of the lake was beautiful. The suite was fine for three people.

Driving north on Lake Shore Road, with wonderful glimpses of beautiful Lake George, you would not think you're headed for one of the best resorts in the Northeast (and beyond).... but you are! When you arrive, you will know instantly that you are in a very special place. The lobby hints at this, but when you walk down the steps to the lake, pool, restaurants and relaxing areas, you quickly realize that this is where "heaven & earth" come together into one seamless & wonderful experience. Lake George is the main attraction, but only the Sagamore can improve on what nature has already done to perfection, matching it with their own! You'll spend some money here, and you'll not regret it, in fact, you may even like it! Don't miss it! Go there!

Room Tip: A room with a view of Lake George and/or the main grounds at the rear of the property (facing East...

This past weekend my wife and I had a great and relaxing weekend at this wonderful hotel. We came up and it was the perfect escape, the staff was friendly and the meals where fantastic, while most of the hotel was closed for the season we did find it very charming.

The room was a great size and the view of the lake was great. Only thing I would recommend is investing in HD cable.

We can not wait to go back in the future with our family!

If I were to rate this place on the grounds alone and the ambience it would have rated 5 out of 5. Then you factor in the rooms (it was kinda musty and small) at a high dollar rate in the 400 range, and you get yourself a 3/5. The staff, service, food, drinks, and amenities were AMAZING. Maybe my room wasn't a suite? Though this historical dated hotel is in need of some room renovations. For the price of the room, I expected more. Though the overall experience with that stuff aside, it was well worth it. My other complaint, the bar closes at 10 by the water. LAME! That is a cash cow in itself and they shut down at dusk...

We stayed here years ago in a lodge and this time in the original hotel. Under new management the hotel lobby is beautiful and the staff seems friendly (kind of a forced friendliness?) and efficient. We had a Governors room facing the lake that came with a diner package. The room was smallish but nice. There was a major leak in the bathroom that was quickly fixed. The furnishings were nice but when you notice most of the nick-knacks are glued down, it feels cheap, like they think I am going to steal this stuff? I would rather they not have them at all. Our limited menu dinner was very good in their Italian restaurant. A reasonable limited menu and generous portions. We were not as happy about breakfast there though. Ham and eggs came with two super thin sandwich size slices of ham and one piece of toast. Really? Spending a good amount for a breakfast and one slice of toast? And that is a feeling you leave with, that you are over paying for everything. That it is nice, but not worth the price. The indoor pool was large and mostly clean (I dont know why their were dead leaves around an inside pool) but the hot tub is silly. It is ok if you want to soak your bottom half, but I had to sit on the floor of it to soothe my achy back. The Sagamore is now a wedding destination and the Saturday night we were there featured a loud wedding band blasting music that echoed in the courtyard. The music did stop by 11PM but then the drunk and happy guests wandered the grounds inside and out, loudly. The plus about the Sagamore is it really is a grand hotel of ages past and has a great location/view, the negatives are you feel like you are just paying too much for what you get. There is nothing like it nearby so just go and keep saying to yourself, what a view, what a location!

Room Tip: We didn't like the lodge room we had years ago. It can be a long walk to the hotel (where the fo...

Booked the Sagamore last weekend with some trepidation because of reviews. I had been there before on business, husband wanted to see it, so off we went. Yes, the rooms are expensive and not all that grand for the price, but still are nice. Bathroom was refurbished, done well. Bed was comfy, nice view of the lake.
We both had massages at the spa - fantastic! Everyone could not have been nicer.
Fitness room is well equipped, lots of machines of different types.
Did not use the pool, but it looked very inviting.
Dinner at La Bella Vista was great. Food was very good, well presented and service from our waiter Nick was superb! When one of our entrees was not hot enough he took it back, apologized and brought it back quickly.
Lunch in the bar area before you enter the restaurant was delicious, we both had lobster rolls that were outstanding.
I imagine that things can be different in the summer, but our November get away was great. Am leaving off the fifth star because it is chintzy to tack on a $25 resort fee. If they want to present themselves as a luxury hotel then they should act like it.
A nice touch would have been to be upgraded, since we did mention it was our anniversary and the hotel was 'very quiet' (as told to us by the person that checked us in). Many hotels are eager to do that if rooms are available - call it good will, but that didn't happen.

Room Tip: Definitely book the main hotel facing the lake if you can afford it.

We have been going to Sagamore for over 20 years. Here is a tip- get a lodge room on top floor especially if you have children. Two bathrooms and fireplace-quick walk to hotel- nature walk for the kids- full kithcen if you do not want to go out for every meal. Buildings 5 and 6 are best- quiet but a quick walk or the little shuttle will take you to the hotel. Nothing better than a roaring fire-bottle or two of wine and sitting out on lakefront balcony. And now open againall year- perfect!!!!!

Room Tip: Lodge 5 or 6 on top floor
