“Perfect romantic getaway weekend”

Planning on short notice we decided to take a road trip and were incredibly happy with the result! The resort was beautiful, and the staff couldn't have done anymore to make our stay issue free and enjoyable. I have already recommended it and will definitely return.

The room was spacious, up to date and clean. We booked a suite a short walk from the main building down the hill toward town. The staff was very friendly. The housekeepers were delighted by our children and even helped clean our dirty dishes. Expect wifi to be a bit on the slow side (1-3 mb/s dl) if you'll need to use the internet.

We had a perfect week-end at The Sagamore with friends. I was swept away by the breathtaking views surrounding the hotel.. sparkling lake and glorious mountains. Enjoyed the well manicured grounds and each of the many settings offering different views of the Lake. Stayed in one of the lodges. The suite was clean and comfortable, complete with a kitchen, fireplace and balcony overlooking lake. For a great dining experience make sure to check out the Club Grille Steak House, you will not be disappointed. Excellent food, service and great ambiance. Breakfast at La Bella Vita is a must. Experience the beauty of The Sagamore, it's a gem of a place! Special thanks to JFC PR for your spot on recommendations.

We had a perfect weekend at the Sagamore with our 2 year old. The hotel is beautiful and the views are breathtaking. It was very kid friendly, and we never left the property. The restaurants were quite good, we greatly enjoyed the boat ride on The Morgan, our room was lovely, and we enjoyed strolling the grounds. The bonfire was especially fun.

Room Tip: We had a beautiful suite, but it was right above a restaurant. It was therefore very noisy. If we...

We have had wonderful stays at the sister hotels of the Sagamore - particularly Wentworth by the Sea in NH. This hotel was worn, views of lake blocked, bad smells in some of the public spaces and we made the mistake of getting the meal plan. (Confusing to the staff, limited options, and salmon that was decidedly suspect.) Will not go back.

Room Tip: For sure - no rooms that are below grade.

Stayed a couple of nights at the Sagamore - our first visit - and overall we enjoyed the resort. We had made advanced reservations at three of the restaurants and according to the website and brochure, brought appropriate clothing - smart casual for dining. Much to our disappointment, the Club Grill Steakhouse and La Bella Vita paid absolutely no attention to dress requirements and we found ourselves dining beside people dressed in sleeveless t-shirts, cut-off shorts, rubber sandals, and the inevitable baseball cap, worn backwards. When you are prepared to spend $250 - $300 for a meal, you don't want to be eating in an Applebee's environment. I mentioned it to a waiter at The Club Grill and she shrugged as if to say, "we've got to make a living." This of course isn't just Sagamore's dilemma; I see it in almost all restaurants. Secondly, the wine list was very mediocre and the same list was repeated at all of the restaurants, so there was no variety. We ended up canceling several reservations and went off site to dine. The spa was nice, but a little pricey for the service. Overall, an average visit, but needs a lot of work to compete with the Greenbrier or the Homestead or even the Grand Hotel.

My husband and 2 young daughters visited the Sagamore Hotel over the September long weekend. We had been to the hotel a couple of years ago and I will say that the hotel has improved a lot (service and decor of lodge rooms).

Below are my tips/review:

Booking the Hotel:
Would recommend you book the hotel directly with the Sagamore. We booked the hotel via Orbitz and it was a mess, Orbitz made all sorts of errors. When we called the 'reservations' number at the hotel (not sure if this is a central service), they were completely un helpful and kept giving me canned answers. I finally spoke to a night manager who was working the front desk and he was incredibly helpful, nice and resolved all of our reservation issues.

The room:
We booked a lodge suite with kitchenette. The first room they gave us didn't had a very small kitchen and it was nothing like the picture. Given that I had 2 kids under 3, a kitchen was a necessity! I called the front desk and they immediately made the switch (just not sure why they tried to give us a room that wasn't what we booked!). Once we finally got to the correct room, it was wonderful. Nice renovated kitchens (good for making simple breakfasts, a fridge that could hold milk, water, beer etc).

The experience:
The Sagamore is wonderful. We participated in the evening bonfire, we went to the two of Lake George, Played Mini Golf etc. We also did the nature walk... The experience more than makes up for any glitches.

Price:
The hotel is very expensive, but the property is stunning.

Service:
Compared to a couple of years ago, the service is MUCH better than it was.

Room Tip: Double check the room you reserved and the room you receive. Lodge Suites should have a proper kitch...
