When we made our reservation online, the confirmation screen at the end reflected the rate as $50 more/night before taxes and fees than what was shown on the reservation screen. Called them and had it fixed. No apologies.

The package we booked included a free breakfast each morning. They ended up billing us for 2 out of 5 breakfasts, one of which we had corrected at check-out. The other one was charged to our credit card following check-out. Called their Billing department and they did end up crediting the charge. No apologies.

As for our condo, the space was what we expected but one of the ceiling fans was broken with a part hanging off the ceiling supported by exposed wires. Also, the blanket in the master bedroom and the floor mat in the bathroom had red/dark red stains.

Other aspects: The grounds were well-kept. We encountered some helpful staff but also some unhelpful/unfriendly staff. Overall, we expected better in light of what we paid for our stay.

I attended a business function and was able to stay here for 2 nights in early October. Beautiful property, extremely clean, restaurants were great, beds were really comfortable. Try takaing the lake dinner cruise, really shows how large Lake George is.

Room Tip: Stay in the mail property, not in the "suites".

My wife and I stayed here on a Saturday night in October. We stayed in a room located in the Hermitage building. I have to give the hotel two separate ratings, so please bear with me. In recognition of the grounds, the scene as you drive up the driveway towards the main hotel, the view from the front of the hotel overlooking the lake, I don't know that you can beat this facility. For that, I would rate views/scenery a 5 out of 5. The lobby and check-in process could not be more pleasant or professional. I was given clear directions on how to get to the Hermitage building, and off we went.
The room is a 2 level room with a living room, seating area, along with a tiny kitchen equipped with a small refrigerator and a two burner electric stove downstairs. Upstairs was our king bed, television in a wooden cabinet, closet and bathroom. Keeping in mind the rate this hotel charges, we had the following criticism. The refrigerator and two burner electric stove top were archaic at best. The refrigerator struggled to keep a cool temperature. The couch and easy chair were well worn and one of the couch cushions had a burn mark in an alleged non-smoking unit. Above the television was a well developed cobweb that was very obvious. Upstairs, the housekeeping woes continued, as on top of the television cabinet we found a layer of dust, some dead bugs, and a July edition of a real estate sales magazine. It is safe to say that had been there a while. In the bathroom, there is an old school bathtub with sliding glass doors which has been retro-fitted with a low, low flow shower head. Above the shower head is a slanted alcove where the bedroom closet is. Again, this piece of wall was coated in dust, as was the bathroom vent. Lastly, the toilet seat was very, very loose. It slid all over when you sat on it. Not sure it was even attached. The bed was comfy, so that was nice. Overall, I would have to give the room a 2 out of 5. Given the price of this resort, this room ends up north of $300, it's really quite disappointing. I mean, apart from the grounds/views/scenery, you'd be better off staying for much cheaper at any of the 101 roadside motels you pass on the way to the resort. Then for the day, go up and use the grounds and enjoy The Sagamore views. I guess it's true that you really do pay for the view.

Staying here for a work conference. Unbelievable poor attitude from most staff members. Got to my room at 10:50pm. Room service was supposed to continue until 11pm. Nope. Forget it. They wouldn't even serve a desert before 11pm. Windows are dirty. Room is dated. Delivery trucks and hotel personnel hanging out below the dirty room windows make it impossible to nap or sleep in. A basic Chardonnay at the bar is $12. There's a 13-day cancellation policy with no mercy if you want to cancel even 3 days in advance. And at $300+/night, it should be obvious to you that this place is a complete rip off and on top of that, has horrible customer service from most personnel.

Our long anticipated weekend trip to the Sagamore was a disappointment. Do your research before booking so that you are assured the space you expect. We arrived at the front lobby and were greeted by efficient, friendly valets. Our luggage was taken inside as we checked in, only to find out that we were assigned a room in a "lodge". After several minutes our luggage was located and returned to our car. We drove to the "lodge" where there was no help lugging our baggage down a flight of stairs to what may be generously referred to as the garden-level. Our room was spacious but when I opened the curtain the view was up a small hill into a parking lot. We decided to make the best of it and dressed for our dinner reservations back at the main building, we called for the shuttle service. Within a few minutes one arrived at our building, picked up a family a couple of doors down and then drove right by us! We called the front desk again and another shuttle arrived within several minutes. The bar service and drinks were good. The food was also prepared well but when I asked for some crushed pepper for my red sauce the waitress was gone for several minutes and returned saying she could not find any-she asked another worker to go look. When he returned another several minutes later the food was cold. The setting is beautiful and I wish our stay had been closer to what we expected.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for the type of room you want, specify the building, etc. You may end up as we did...

The Resort's History page proclaims "More than a century of luxury on Lake George" - an apt description. This is a grand old hotel with many separate lodges and amenities, all on Bolton Island, with great views all around.

We read some negative reviews regarding the resort being overflowing with kids, and rooms in the lodges being not so great. So we booked a room in the main hotel, after the kids are all back in school.

We had happened upon the impressive resort many many years ago but didn't stay, so we were looking forward to this little vacation. The drive up to the entrance was impressive, with the expansive lawn/croquet grounds in front of a white tower and large covered entrance, and the white main building spread out on both sides - a grand sight. The hotel is not luxurious in the style of modern Florida or Hawaii resorts, but in the style of a historic, Eastern adirondack grande dame.

Being Fall, there were beautifully arranged seasonal displays and decorations inside and all around the resort. grounds. A helpful bellhop helped us with the luggage when we drove up, and in no time at all we were checked in by pleasant, courteous staff. They had upgraded us to a lakefront room in the main building, because it was our anniversary! As well, there was a bottle of champagne waiting for us in the room.

The room was small by today's standards, but very adequately and richly furnished, together with a flat screen TV. A comfortable king size bed had luxurious bedclothes (sheets felt like a thread count of 400) and the towels were thick and fluffy. Everything was quite upscale. There was a little area for a luggage stand and a closet. The housekeeping was impeccable (there was one burnt light though). Being an older building, there were some creaky spots and the bathroom floor sloped slightly, but that was to be expected. The WiFi was free and worked everywhere we went.

After settling in, we headed for the complimentary two hour tour of Lake George on the Morgan. This boat was not large, but at this time of the year there was plenty of room for everybody. There was an open air upper deck, and an enclosed lower deck, where refreshments and food may be bought. The tour was very scenic and worthwhile.

Afterwards, we explored the hotel and the island. There were many restaurants; some of the outlying ones were closed for the season. We had lunch at the outdoor patio at Caldwell's, a comfy, club like lounge with a fireplace and bar. The food was very good and reasonable, the service good. The view was great. Afterwards, we walked downstairs to the big glass-enclosed fitness center, then the huge indoor pool area with a hot tub. The pool is heated, surrounded by clear plastic patio doors which can be raised electronically to connect with the outisde terrace, which is adjacent to the back of the hotel. This is another amazing area, several expansive levels with foliage, trees and umbrellas looking out to the lake, and the lake front outdoor swimming pool.

We then walked around the island to see the many lodges, the tennis center which has five HarTru courts, the boat house, conference center, etc etc. It was a nice walk, and the grounds were beautifully maintained. We drove to the golf course to have a look at the breathtaking first hole, which drops down from the tee to the manicured fairway below, with the lake beyond. We didn't bring our clubs, since we wanted to enjoy the resort itself.

We had dinner at La Bella Vista, the main dining room adjacent to Caldwell's. This was well appointed, with a huge windowed wall looking out to the lake, and an outdoor patio. The food was excellent, although my wife ordered her steak "blue" and, often as not, had to send it back to get it right. It was no problem though, as all the servers were very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating, and we learned that many of them are interns from all over the world - Ireland, Phillipines, etc. It was interesting to chat with them. It was the same at breakfast the next morning (we took the breakfast package).

We can see that this could be very busy in the summer, but at this time of the year we almost had the place to ourselves, so using the amenities was not a problem. The resort was expensive, but it was worth it. We are planning our next trip back.

Room Tip: Stay at the hotel and not the lodges - which are good for large groups or families.

i went here on vacation with my family in mid July and had a great time. the Sagamore is a great place for families and great for kids. they had big pool and i very nice view of the lake. a little pricey but a great time the bed were very comfortable and the rooms mad you feel at home over all i loved this place and its great place to get away to even if you live far away.
