We travel to the ADKs very often and do not like staying in the town of Lake George (too touristy!) but love the more northern areas of the lake! So we decided to try Chelka Lodge for our 4th of July trip. The location was great! Great views, sandy beach and swimming area, kayaks to use, and grassy sitting area! The rooms were very basic. No extras and okay on the cleanliness side. Although, the housecleaning staff each day arranged the kids stuffed animals and towels in cute shapes on the bed! Breakfast is a step above continental with one homemade item each morning (cinnamon rolls, etc.) but we always had to wait for a seat or squish into a tiny table. Overall, I recommend the hotel for the location but don't expect anything with the rooms.

The family and i have been staying at the Chelka lodge for the last 5 years and love it we just got back yesterday and i..f i had to describe our vacation perfect would cover it. The Chelka lodge has everything a family could want when staying in Lake George nice clean rooms a friendly staff and the property is amazing with a nice sand beach and great views from every room. When staying at the Chelka lodge they provide a nice simple breakfast to start the day perfect for the myself and the family. My 7 year old son love to fish and weather your a novice or pro there are fish of all types available right from the boat house. In a nut shell i only have positives to share we love it and are counting the days untill our next visit, trust me if you have the chance to travel to Lake George and check out the Chelka lodge you wont be disappointed.

The Chelka is a true Lake George and Adirondack classic. The location on the lake is perfect and the property is well maintained and comfortable. Compared to some of the other lodging options in the area (I've stayed at about a half dozen or so other places on the lake over the years), the Chelka is certainly a classic among them. The other place I would highly recommend is the Northward Ho! a little further north on Route 9N.

Generally speaking, folks planning a trip to the Lake George, NY area should be mindful of the fact that these quaint little family owned resorts and motels on the lake are only open for business for about four months a year....from Memorial Day to about Columbus Day. They're closed-up for the off-season. Keep in mind that it is not easy to keep these places in top condiction and turn a profit in such a short period of time each year. This is why the furniture may look like it's from the Brady Bunch's house or why there are no HD flat screens in your room. Also, don't forget that in most cases the resort property is also the owner's home.

Regarding the Chelka's best features: Great lakefront with a sandy beach and sandy lake bottom. Located in Boon Bay, there is minimal speed-boat traffic here which cuts down on the noise. Breakfast included in room rate. Close to area attratctions and dining options. Attentive and friendly owners and staff. Free use of canoes, kayaks and rowboats.

Regarding complaints I've seen posted here: There is no national corporate standard at the Chelka. There is, however, a standard of tradition and family values that attracts guests by word-of-mouth. If you're looking for the Hampton Inn, it's down the road a bit and not on the lake. It's brand new. Have fun.

Regarding the dogs: Yes the dogs can be a little much, but I'd say they're part of the Chelka's charm. If you are deathly afraid of dogs or if you could poentially have your vacation ruined by the presence of dogs, don't stay here.

Regarding noise: There is a little noise from Route 9N which runs along the west shore of the lake. It's not so bad. If Rt. 9N weren't there it would be hard to get to the Chelka. Regarding noise from kids playing, etc... It comes with the territory. Lake George=Family Vacation. If you're looking for seclusion/isolation try a nice B&B in the area.

Overall, a great place that reminded me of Lake George family getaways when I was a kid. Try the Chelka. You'll have a nice time.

We have been to LG many many times, but this was the first time we spent at the Chelka Lodge. We were nervous about our choice since we had only seen pictures of it on line, however, once we arrived our fears were put to rest. The room was spacious and clean with a spectacular view of the lake. The hosts and staff were lovely and the grounds were well kept. Since it is a small place, it was very peaceful there and never seemed crowded. It is a great place to relax and we would definitely return.

The Chelka Lodge turned out to be the perfect place to escape from our crazy day to day lives. Nestled nicely under beautiful Pine Trees, there was a beautiful view of the lake from almost any spot on the property....just what we were looking for. Each morning we awoke to birds singing and a beautiful breeze coming off the Lake. It was quite tranquil.
Our room was quite comfortable and clean with a great view-really very relaxing. One of our favorite parts of our stay at the Chelka Lodge were Heidi and Sophie. These are the family pets (dogs) of the owners of the lodge, and we quickly became friends. They are charming, friendly and wonderful companions, and we thank Dave and Judy for sharing them with us!!
If you are looking for a place to escape, Chelka Lodge is perfect! Thanks for a great experience. Michele & Tim
