“Vas You ever in Zinzinnati - great German food experience in NY”
Reviewed August 2, 2009

We were an extended family from Cincinnati, the city with the largest Oktoberfest festival outside of Munich, looking for a good dinner and found Pumpernickel's. We ordered sauerbraten, snitzel, potato pancakes, and red cabbage and we were all very pleased with the wonderful meals. The meals come with a trip to the soup and salad bar and the streudel, cheesecakes and chocolate cakes for dessert are to die for. And of course the children loved the huge cuckoo clock. We'll certainly go back when we go back to Lake George.

“Had to Pay Extra for Apple Sauce”
Reviewed August 14, 2008

Grew up on German food and always am looking for a new restaurant. As a part-time resident of Bolton Landing, I was told to try Pumpernickel's. Should have been wary as no locals ever talked about the place.

We went with 4 people and all of us order potato pancakes among other things. They did not give us enough apple sauce to go around. We asked for more and got it but was not told there would be a charge. On a bill of over $200 I don't think we should have been charged for the apple sauce we needed to go with the potato pancakes. The owner came over when we complained and told us people ask for it and leave it on the table. So, I charge for it. He wouldn't even acknowledge that we used it all. He was obnoxious, rude and loud. Tried to embarrass in front of the other customers. His voice kept rising as we asked more questions. He stormed away and basically said if you don't like it, don't come back. Well, guess what, I won't and I don't recommend the place. I will take every chance to tell people how the ower acted. I do recommend a local German restaurant in Glens Falls, where you are treated well and the food is delicious.

The food may have been good but I will never go to the place again. The owner made the experience not one I would like to repeat. He may get the tourist business each summer and can be rude to people who may never return......You do not demean your customers.

“Best German food we have found”
Reviewed August 24, 2007

We always eat at Pumpernickels when we visit Lake George
We are of German heritage, and it is hard to find really good,
authentic German cuisine

We would recommend the Special Platter, that incorporates
all the German special foods ie: knockwurst, bratwurst,
wiener schnitzel, red cabbage, german sauerkraut, and mashed
potatoes. enough food for the whole table!

“World's Largest Cuckoo Clock...and it chimes every fifteen minutes!”
Reviewed July 30, 2007

Pumpernickel's is like taking a trip to Germany. Delicious German fare, beers served in authentic Germany liter steins, and the world largest cuckoo clock (the ornate, handcarved time piece was made for a World's Fair) make for a delightful and memorable dining experience. Bolton's Landing is about 10 minutes north of Lake George Village. Salad and sides come with the dinner choices. Kids menu available. Our group ranged in age from 10 to 70 and everyone had a fabulous meal.
