“A Real Surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2010

We were there in early June and only went there because other attraction we wanted to see - Saranac Lodge for one - were closed on week days. (Hint - see the Adirondacks on the weekends in shoulder season) Anyway this Museum was a real treat and we are not museum fans. Even the food was delightful in a small cafeteria overlooking the lake. Could easily spend a full day here. And that was without the demonstrations (again wrong time of the year).. The transportation exhibits - boats, trains, etc were very well done. The guides in each area could talk with you for hours. Old houses, quilt exhibit and more were all excellent

“A wonderful Gem for children and adults”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2010

Beautiful museum overlooking Blue Mountain lake with so much to see, history of the adirondacks, all kinds of boats from canoes to old time racing boats, logging industry history, railroad cars, horse drawn buggies and cutters, adirondack furniture, just too much to mention it all. Picture taking a must, plan on spending at least a good five hours here if not longer.

“Wonderful History of the Adirondack Mountains”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2010

This museum has fantastic dioramas that are kid friendly. My three year old listened as the dioramas spoke about what he could see and my ten year old loved to listen too. My son loved the old cars and horse drawn wagons. My husband loved the boats and old fishing equipment. I loved the tree logging exhibit (my father worked at a paper co. in the Adirondack Mts., so it holds a special place in my heart). My daughter loved the special Indian tee-pee they had set up for the 19th century mountain men exibit this weekend only. The museum really has something for everyone.

“Very nice afternoon”

It's a distance from the highway, but it's a very pretty museum. The store is very nice. We will likely take visitors here again. You walk from building to building and see various sites/subjects. There's a lovely cafeteria building (good choice, decent prices) if you'd like to have a snack. You can bring your own lunch, too (we did both) and sit outside. There are some stunning views. I'm not the greatest Adirondack history fan, in general, but this museum and its grounds were beautiful. There's an interesting mix of subjects in the many buildings/displays. We all enjoyed it. I'd certainly go again.

I love museums (you probably get the idea, if you looked at my other reviews) This is truly a beautiful museum... There is so much to see & do here and the area (especially during the fall) is breathtaking... You can learn so much about the areas culture by visiting this museum... Take a day trip to this museum. You will be glad you did...
