The Ross Park Zoo is a great day trip with family or friends. The price was WAY less my local zoo, very affordable! There is a FREE carousel by the entrance of the zoo. My biggest complaint about the zoo was that many habitats were up a large hill. For the elderly, it can be a bit of a challenge. Otherwise, the zoo is AWESOME!!!
We decided to travel about 1.5hrs to visit this zoo. It's pretty small and they have some nice animals to see for children, but if you're not local it's not worth traveling. The most disappointing part is the amount of animals they have that have no companions. What a lonely life those animals have, alone in a cage with no companion.
The Ross Park Zoo is a great family day trip. The prices are really good and not overpriced like other places.
There are many exhibits that kids and adults will enjoy. I think that you should definitely visit The Ross Park Zoo.
Ross Park has changed over the years. It is changing again with the addition of an outdoor ampitheater and relocation of some animals. The walk up the hill to see some of the animals is a little challenging. Beautiful gardens through-out and close to the Discovery Center. Nice day outside with the kids but keep your eyes open, hard to see some of the animals.
The zoo is a ~1 mile walk around the side of a fairly steep hill with about 20 exhibits; a couple of them were either under construction, or the animals were missing.
It's a quaint little place, with a carousel, and eager volunteers to explain the attractions should you desire. The trip to/from the zoo actually took longer than the attraction itself.
Makes a nice afternoon diversion, especially with smaller children, and the price is quite attractive.
We (four small kids and my hubby and I) were traveling past Binghamton and needed a place to stop. We had researched it before and knew that is was an older zoo (not the buildings, but the date that it started-1875). We knew it would be basic animals, but we love zoos! With all that said.....we did not have extremely high expectations.
We loved it! It greatly exceeded our expectations and was a very nice treat in a long trip. The paths are nicely laid out and the carousal was FREE! You didn't even have to go into the park to have a carousal ride.....TWO nice playgrounds (a huge one by the outside bathrooms and one near the middle of the park)...friendly staff who tell you the "shows" are coming up.....a free prize if you find a special sign (won't tell you where it is, but I am guessing they move it)....very nice shade everywhere....seem to be doing a lot of fixing up....I will recommend this zoo every time people say they are going thru the Binghamton area! What a great zoo! (Our kids ages are 8, 6, 3, and 1 and we walked thru everything in about 2 hours).....the same area has a discovery zone.....we did not go into that this time, but last time it also was awesome!
I love that there is a clean bathroom in the parking lot so you can take care of that when you arrive and when you leave.....very important.
