“Food and service are ok, but the din ruined the dinner.”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

We had dinner at Porters on Friday, August 17. Perhaps a Friday night not was not a good choice, but the noise level was so high, we could barely give our orders to our server. The specials that night were very good (the flat steak was excellent) and the service was reasonably prompt, but the constant noise, even as the crowd began to leave, was a major negative for a party of four trying to enjoy an evening out. For a restaurant that is not cheap, this is a serious problem.

“Porch was a bit of a squeeze.”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

On a lovely sunny evening, there was nothing better to do than sit on the porch area of this restaurant, to eat, drink and enjoy the sunshine, or so we thought

Alas, the porch is very cramped and tight for space, 4 of us to eat and another person joining us after dinner, meant we were very squeezed.

Not that cheap either, I had what was described as melted cheese on pasta with lobster, basically it turned out to be macaroni cheese with lobster, other meals were nice and tasty, especially the steak.

The waiters are friendly and obliging, despite having to squeeze through a number of tables, i did not venture inside, so cannot comment on that part.

We did enjoy ourselves, but it could have been better.

“Town Pub. But Upscale for a Pub. Laid Back Batch of Ranger Fans.”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

I guess this would qualify as the town pub, but like almost everything in this Long Island town, there is a hint of elegance lurking below the causual approach. The building itself is not exactly like an old bar...more like a pretty elegant home with pillars and an outside patio. The bartenders are conginial and the Angus Cheeseburger featured high quality meat. It was a fine enough burger though not memorable. (Yes burgers can be memorable...you just need to know where to go...places like Roache and O'Brien's on the Main Line in Pennsylvania or Rouge, Rembrandt's or Village Whiskey in Philly). I watched a whole New York Ranger game at Porters and then the Kentucky Derby and as a transplanted New Yorker now living in the Philadelphia area, it was a pleasure to watch my beloved Rangers with fellow Ranger fans instead of with the usual Ranger-hating Philadelphians. I do have to say that this being Bellport, the fans at Porter's were more than a tad laid back compared to the lathered up Philly fans that I am used to during Flyers games. And there was no throaty roar as the Derby horses came racing down the stretch...another anomoly compared to the city of brotherly love. My wife, who got the lay of the land in Bellport right away and who joined me for the Derby advised me that there is no shouting in Bellport. I'm glad she missed my performance during the Ranger game!

“Great food, no sound absorbers”
Reviewed April 15, 2012

Lovely meal on a Saturday evening. Shared calamari, scallops with risotto and half chicken (dark meat a little underdone). Wait staff did nothing about underdone food other than say "oh". Nonetheless, the place was completely acceptable except that there is no place for the sound to go and so when it's only half full, it's noisy. Too bad, otherwise it would be just about perfect.

“Ear Plugs and Hearing Aids”
Reviewed April 7, 2012

The food was excellent! Everything was delicious. Couldn't have been better in that department.. However, as others have mentioned ..the noise. We were in the back dining room. Can't remember if there's a tin ceiling or walls but people's conversation across the room were bouncing off the wall over to us. Could hear them better than the person seated across from me. Very Strange. They need to do something. Thicker drapes to absorb sound? I don't know ,but the noise really ruined the dining experience...
