Been here multiple times, not the nicest place but not the worst. If you go off the path it can be really relaxing and serene. The lake itself is beautiful, you can rent boats. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy it by the water. They have a tiny zoo, it isn't much but it is still neat. The ice rink in the winter is nice, but it can be pricy and get busy fast. Also $8 to park your car.

First of all, the setting was beautiful as you would expect from state park type lodging. The rooms were well appointed and looked like they were decorated with a Cabela's catalog. However, this is were the charm ends. Finding the lodge provided additional stress to an already long day of driving (10 hours) and their address is not recognized by GPS. The phone tree does not allow you to talk to a human nor provides you access to any of the lodge staff. Upon arrival we were greeted by a most unpleasant desk attendant, closed dining facilities, broken WiFi, and not even an ice machine for guest. The continental breakfast was terrible, I have had better at low cost budget hotels. A total lack of attention to detail and guest services clearly falls on management and a state administered system that does not understand how to run hospitality services. I would not want to judge the entire New York state park system on this one, first time experience, but it would be doubtful if we took another chance at a bad stay. My wife and I tried to be as nice and considerate when checking out and mentioned we did not have a very nice experience and the morning desk attendant said she was sorry and would pass that information to management and was sure they would contact us...... however, there was no follow-up. But given the lack of customer service to date, we were not surprised.

With a pool, walking zoo, museums, Revolutionary War forts, and the Hudson River dock and trails...the park is a fun place for a day away to BBQ and hike.

They charged us $8 and all we did was park for a minute to get directions. They almost wouldn't let us in at all because we had an RV. There were only a couple hiking trails to choose from, and they were too difficult. So we moved on to Sterling Forest S.P. And had a much better experience.

It a great place to escape for a day from the hustle bustle of NYC. You would not believe that in only 35 miles north from New York City you can be in a whole new world, a different environment. There you can enjoy spectacular views of mountains and the Hudson River with lavish trees etc.
There are places to picnic and a lake to row boat.
This is important not to miss. Look for Perkins Memorial Drive in the Bear Mountain State Park. Drive up to the top. There is the Tower that you can go up 4 flights and it will give you a great view of all around . Also, it is a very nice spot to take pictures on top of the hill. But But, my biggest wow was, when you start to drive (or go) downhill, after a few hundred yards, there is a road to the right. There is a sign “scenic drive”. Drive down approx ½ mile or less. You will come to a lookout area. Stop the car and go out (carefully if you have children, steep cliff down) you will have a stunning view of the mountains below with the Hudson River and the Bear Mountain Bridge . It is just awe. We took many pictures. It was a wonderful time. I would recommend a must for everyone.
