Let me begin by saying that the Bear Mt Inn that the Inn has been totally renovated. Built in the early 20th century, the Inn is large, rustic, and sits on beautiful grounds. Hessian Lake is one of New York's great tiny treasures with the peak of Bear Mt rising behind it and the Hudson River nestled below. The Trailside Zoo is the cutest, best-laid out zoo I have ever visited. Great for families with little children and a fine walk from the lodge. Finally, the pool--during the week at least--is great. Set outdoors near the entrance to the zoo, it is quite large.
The rooms in the Inn are lovely and very, very clean. I am a stickler for hotel rooms being clean.
Now, some of the negatives. I agree with Bookworm's point that it is not quite ready for prime-time mostly because the fine dining restaurant and bar are not yet open. There is a cafe that is open on the weekends, but it is mostly for day-trippers. However, Tompkins Cove has a fantastic Irish Restaurant and Highland Falls has the legendary Thayer Hotel outside of West Point.
