As one of my tablemates said last week, "You're not in New York anymore." I am not saying that in a snobby way. I live in Beacon. But Swift is trying to be a NYC restaurant in Beacon so they have to work a little harder, especially considering the prices. I'm sure it's not easy finding and training waitstaff, but the training seems to have been focussed on being cool instead of competent.
That said, the view is worth the price of admission. I'm a view freak and this one makes up for deficiencies in service.
I'm sure with time and proper management Swift can make it happen. I hope so.

The quality of the food was on par with some of the better restaurants in New York City. The selection was great and so was the wine and beer. Most of the food is locally grown and is very seasonal. I absolutely will be going back soon. The atmosphere is elegant and they kept a good amount of the old historical building intact. Service staff was very polite and friendly and were also very knowledgeable.

Writing this after our second visit with the first having been 6-weeks ago shortly after they opened. Service on the first visit was slow, but we wrote that off to working out the bugs. But now the same on second visit, so that's the way the place is. On the positive, the food is imaginative and excellent. This visit, wine arrived promptly, but after that it was more than 45 minutes until the appetizers appeared. And then another 30 minutes for the main courses. In between, our server was seen darting from table to table, but somehow seemed to avoid our attempts at getting her attention. Having no choice, we called over another server and after that our original was never seen at our table again. We mentioned the slow service and the total of the response was "they were really busy." No sense of appology, no "what can we do?" All this around 10:00 at night, as the restaurant was well on its way to thinning out.

Food is fine, but marred by poor front-of-the-house performance.

Beacon's first serious restaurant, Swift is the place that will come to define Beacon in years to come. A beautifully designed space (David Rockwell as lead architect, with all details and amenities produced by Beacon artists and craftspeople) it sits at the base of Beacon Faals itself. It is part of the extraordinary Roundhouse Hotel complex which will fully open in the fall of 2012.

The restaurantv(and the sister patio grill open daily for lunch and dinner) are both first-rate culinary experiences worth the trip, and worthy of the prices. Swift has an amazingly inventive menu based on seasonal local ingredients and some serious CIA-inspired creativity.

We have had three meals at Swift, and each was better than the last. Great bar (the chef makes his own bitters, for example, and has invented a great new twist on the classic Manhattan.) savor the menu over multiple visits. The reasont Swift used artists to make all the furnushings and details iscreflected by the fact that the chef sees himself asan artist too, and takes real creative risks and delivers food unlike anything else in Beacon. (The only exception to this is the house-made charcutterie at the othe great new Beacon joint, The Hop.) The deserts at Swiftwell are worth their caloric costs, the place is acoustically engineered so you can enjoy a conversation without shouting-- what a nice idea.

Very hip bar off to the side, seems like e late night dentition of Becon's artist and musician scene.
