Owner description: Well-preserved 18th century home of seven generations of the Brett family.

The Madam Brett Homestead is extremely well-maintained by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The tour was very interesting and informative. It followed the lineage, history and artifacts of a house which was lived in from 1712 to 1954. The tour was conducted by a woman with great knowledge about the Brett- Creary-Teller families and she made the rooms come alive with her stories and narration. Plan to spend about 1 to 1 1/2 hours in the house and gardens.

This home is open due to the ladies of the daughters of the American revolution on the second Saturday of the month from 1 pm to 4 pm. Tours are offered. The home is right behind Main Street. This descendant of colonialists ran a business and was truly remarkable. Many of the family possessions remain in the house for you to appreciate. Remember that the host is a volunteer. Enjoy. Small donations are welcome.

Funny how close we were to the place then drove all over town looking for something spectacular. It is the HOMESTEAD, not a mansion. Would like to know when or if it is open to the public for tours or work days or something.

I'm a former Beacon native who finally did a tour of the house.
It was interesting and the guide was fairly knowledgeable of the history and Madame Brett herself. The upstairs could use some restoration as far as removing the modern light fixtures and restoring what were I assume bedrooms but I'm aware that major funding is needed for these projects. Amazing that the wooden shingles on the outside are original to the 18thC. Very unique.

The most important part of Beacons history. If you really like Beacon, you really must visit! You will get a feel for the " real Beacon," and it's history.
