“Not Bad For The Money”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

pretty good place for the money. Had a couple issues with this place. The showers fluxuate from hot to cold to hot in a matter of seconds, and when i say hot im talking scolding hot. The other think was the maid took a mattress pad that we had for medical reasons. We told the front desk and it was found by the next morning. The staff was very friendly. Convienent place for us. We were there 3 nights cuz we were visiting my brother in law. I felt safe in my room. Not sure what these other reviews are all about. I priced alot of motels in the area and this was the cheapest. So for the price it was ok. No problems

Room Tip: you pay for what you get. pretty good for the price in bayshore.

Really.

That writer who just visited in March? Sadly, it was the only review I read. I'm now deeply suspicious of his lone contribution. At any rate, his tolerance should not be emulated by the rest of us who expect something at least decent for $90 a night. At that WAS the price. Ninety , flat--not ninety plus taxes (city, state, or other). Ninety, pal, take it or leave it. Paying, I had the unmistakable impression most patrons use cash.

A few specifics:

Forget your shampoo? I did, but I drove to the 7-11 rather than put $1.50 in the lobby vending machine for a small foil packet of off-brand.

Wish to shower? Be very careful. This is an event for the nimble only. Dodging in and out of the water as it shifted unpredictably from scalding to frigid was near-dangerous and certainly contra-indicated for those who are not cat-quick first thing in the morning. This happened every few seconds as (presumably) other guests turned a tap or flushed a toilet. I finally gave up, shut the water off, soaped up, and dared a quick rinse.

That $90 price tag is a brilliant ploy. The Bay Shore is on par with places for which I’ve gladly paid $33 when I was in the middle of nowhere and my next option was an hour distant. Clean linen and a door that locked were about all to be expected. Here I got little else and—not sure of that lock—I did stick chair under the door knob, prompted by my gut to a pathetic imitation of some 1940’s B movie. (No, I’m not usually paranoid, but we all saw Psycho, right?) Had the price been $33—or anything fairly representing the value—I’d have been forewarned.

Now, at least, you are.

We were looking for an inexpensive place to crash for the night and found the bay shore inn. Simple, clean and pleasant staff. Good location and would stay here again.

When we arrived we noticed each morning there were police in the car park watching the hotel. Then one day my partner left the hotel in our hire car and was followed from the car park by county police who pulled him over on the main road and searched him and the car for drugs!! Once he explained it was an out of state car as we had hired it, they told us to get the hell out of that place as it was rife with dealers! Nice!!
We left for breakfast the following morning and in error left a mobile phone in the room. On our return an hour later the maid had made the room up and the phone was gone! We reported it to reception who didnt seem overly bothered but said they would ring the maid. They later told us the maid said 'there was no phone in the room'. We contacted the police who said they would be round, but despite waiting in all day they never turned up. Possibly a reflection on the hotel!!

Room Tip: For a good room find another hotel!

We are couple and we were on motorcycle when a thunderstorm surpriced us.
We have been costricted to stop and find a hotel and unfortunately we got a room here.

The front desk woman was really rude, she asked 99$ for one night for a terrible room (she asked if we were smokers or not... and at the end everything smelt of smoke).
The bathroom was really dirty, whit hairs everywhere, there was just one tablet of soap and it was already opened and used.

On the business card they say: "Beautifully decorated room" but of course they don't (old, stinky and dirty)!!!
No elevator, creepy staircase...

We live in Manhattan... often friends come to visit us and we always book hotels for them for this prize we found at least 4 stars!!!

Maybe they take advantage on unlike travelers, workers... in any case... if you have an other choice escape from here!!

First of all, we are not hotel snobs. All we want is a clean, safe place to stay, As soon as you walk in the lobby there is a stale smoke smell and this also permeates the rooms through the vents. There is no elevator and the stairway is steep and filthy. We counted 8 cigarette butts in the stairwell on the filthy carpeting. Our room had burn holes in the filthy carpeting. There were 2 children, about 7 and 10 years old trying to wash the front windows. Though they tried to step on the window frames (in flip-flops) they could not reach the higher windows and just walked away. They were also cleaning the parking lot with a broom and dust pan. This is on a day of 105 degrees!

Room Tip: Don't go here! Lots of traffic all night (one hour rentals?)

I give this inn an average rate due to its price and location. There is nothing of leisure about this inn. Though the room and bathroom were clean, the sheets of the bed were not very soft, the air conditioner was rather loud and so was the plumbing.
