This hotel was a VERY pleasant surprise within its star-rating and price-point. Actually, it was just a pleasant surprise, period. The rooms, although a bit small, were clean and modern. The bed was comfortable and the linens appeared very clean. In fact, when I was checking in, the front desk clerk was actually in the back room folding laundry, so you know it gets done right on premises and isn't shipped out to a mass laundry facility. The only downsides were that the floors must not be very well padded, because I could very easily hear the people in the room above us (and their kid literally jumping up and down at 7am), and the lighting that's used above the bed reminded me of fluorescent hospital lighting - it was too bright and extended across the entire width of the bed, so one person couldn't try to sleep while the other read. Despite that, I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, inexpensive place to lay your head for the night. It's a shame that Microtels are franchises - there's no guarantee that the others would be as wonderful as this one.

For the price, the rooms were good. If you are a non smoker and have to take
a smoking room, be prepared that it may smell like smoke. We were able
to fix this with some Febreze and opening the windows. Free breakfast was
adequate as was the fitness room, although the fitness equipment could use
some maintenance. Make sure that you have a confirmed reservation by speaking
with someone directly at the hotel. There were some internet reservations that
caused the hotel to be over booked (not the fault of the hotel). Decor was trendy
and the lighting went from dimly lit to bright when you turned on the lights over
your bed. (Same effect as a tanning salon!!)

I wanted a convenient place to anchor my family so we could visit the Corning Museum of Glass (excellent!) and the surrounding area. When I read the great reviews from other Tripadvisor travellers for this hotel, I decided to book for 3 nights despite the fact that I could have booked a room at Days Inn down the road for $20 less per night. The booking was done on the Microtel web-site.

Maybe because we have an 11-year old with us, even though it was early afternoon and there were plenty of rooms available when we checked in, we were given a room on the first floor (ground level) that looked very tired (crumpled old bed linens; a bit of dirt on the carpet; bathroom that felt old except for the tub; there was only 1 bar of soap; the towels didn't smell fresh and have changed from white to greyish dark beige), I knew immediately it was not the room for us, but my husband was graceous and didn't want to complain.

The breakfast couldn't have been more basic. The guests have one type of fresh fruit: apples. The hot chocolate mix was an unknown brand with all artificial flavoring. The mini- muffins were the white flour types that come in a box but were not always replenished. The bagels have been cut in halves. A few other items round out the breakfast table. The white plastic cutlery was the cheapest type (too small/too soft to function properly). Since other people have especially mentioned how wonderful the breakfast was in their reviews, we wonder if the hotel has changed management recently.

The Saturday cleaner must have had a bad morning. We came back to our room and found the bathtub full of hair (I have taken a picture of it, just in case). There were also hair on the toilet, sink, and quite a bit more on the bathroom floor. I cleaned it up quickly and we were all happy to check out of the hotel the next morning. It was the first time we stayed at a Microtel and it was quite an ordeal. Luckily we enjoyed our sightseeing and daytime activities and the trip was not a total loss.

I hope we'll have better luck with hotels next time.

We arrived a little early and our room wasn't ready but the receptionist checked us in and gave us the keys and told us to come back in an hour. This was fine & we went for lunch at a chain place next door. Our room was a smoking room even though we requested non - we didn't bother to complain since it was only one night and we were only really sleeping in the room. The hotel seemed busy. The bed was comfortable & wifi avail. In the afternoon we visited the nearest lake & wine region which was lovely. At night we walked (15mins) to main street and had a few drinks and dinner in a nice little bar full of friendly locals. We walked back to the hotel and it felt safe enough although some of the housing along the road looked a little run down. Breakfast was fine although popular with large family groups and small kids running around. It was very hot and a small pool would have been nice to cool down in - that's the only improvement i can really suggest.

I'd never stayed at a Microtel before, so I didn't know what to expect.
The rooms were clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was OK (I wish they had a waffle-maker like some hotels do!).
The decor is modern--rather stark to me, but that's just my taste.
The lights above the beds were bright fluorescent lights, so that was a bit much.
Unfortunately, we were there at a busy time, so rooms were limited, and we had to have smoking rooms. Yes, they smelled like smoke, but a bit of Febreze, plus opening the windows fixed that.
The towels were clean, but I'd suggest they use some bleach -- some looked pure white, other rather yellowish. But they were clean.
There was a washcloth left in the sink when we arrived. That was a strange thing for the cleaners to miss. But the room was clean.
One thing--- the hotel was overbooked (the fault of Hotels.com), so while we were there, there were some poor folks who had no room, even though they had a reservation. It wasn't really the hotel's fault, though. Don't always trust an internet reservation. CALL the hotel and speak to a person!

Overall -- for the price, it's not bad.

We stayed one night during a road-trip - a family of four with two teens with advance reservations for a room with two queens and a bathroom.

The hotel was clean everywhere I went, including the lobby, eating area, public restroom off the lobby, stairwell. The hotel smelled nice and new. We noticed the other residents were families and seniors that we thought could afford a more expensive hotel, but chose this one, and we understand why. It felt safe and clean.

We arrived after a bad thunder-storm and, although the hotel never lost power, the front desk staff were busy making contingency plans. They were collecting keys for manual room entry, flashlights, etc. WiFi had been knocked out but was restored by late evening.

The eating area was small, but tables and chairs extended into the spacious lobby and into another nook off to one side. Impeccably clean. In response to other reviews, I counted seating for over 20 people with most tables seating 2-5. In addition to that, I suppose one could take coffee and a muffin in the lobby's sofa area. The free breakfast had a good selection, with 3 types of juices, coffee/tea including flavoured teas, hot and cold cereals, bagels, toast and muffins, cream-cheese and jam/pbutter, also fresh fruit (whole apples and oranges). Nothing hot like eggs or waffles.

The room was a bit smaller than usual, so this means that there was a long table at the wall, but no chairs except for the sofa-length padded seating at the window. The small bedside table had no room for a lamp. Even a wall lamp or reading light would have been nice because the only lighting option was a flourescent strip above the headboards which is harsh on the eyes and lights the whole room. The room looked more spacious because of the mirrored wall behind the headboards. The decor was modern with fluffy pillow-top like mattress, nice and airy and clean. I just wouldn't want to use this room as a place to hang out and relax, only to sleep.

The only service problem we had was a door that wouldn't close or lock unless it was slammed loudly. Also the Google mapping sent us to the Days Inn on the east side of Washington St., whereas Microtel is on the west side near Water St. It was a good base for touring the Keuka Lake area and Watkins Glen.
