“Needs maintenance”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2014

The Oddballs Camp is better located than the more expensive Enclave. Breakfast is served around 11 am after morning walk and mokoro ride - basic but adequate – lunch around 2.30pm and dinner around 8pm. Meals were simple but very tasty. The staff at Oddballs Enclave are very friendly and helpful. We have never used a bucket shower before so that was a first! There was no water in the ensuite on one night, (apparently due to an oversight by the maintenance guy!) and this could not be fixed until 6am the next day which I felt was not good enough considering the cost. Hopefully this will not happen again! The place needs a bit of maintenance in general – the zip to our “door” was broken and could not be fixed. Would have been good if the flares along the path are lit at night to make it easier to walk back to the tent after dinner. Two nights is more than enough at this place. In spite of all the negatives, we enjoyed our stay as it was different from any place we have stayed at before.

I just stayed for 2 nights in Oddballs lodge at their honeymoon suite. It should rather be called Batcave as it is the dwelling of over 10 of those and lots of wasps, spiders and flies. I wonder who would like to spend their honeymoon in such a place. To complete the picture, we had no hot water. Activities are quite limited to short mokoro rides and long infrutiferous walks. Pony and the staff do a great job with the resources they have but for the price charged I expected more. The camp needs urgent renovation and more attention to details. Food is simple but quite good. Wine is bad. My advice: spend a bit more and choose one of the many Wilderness Safaris lodges. It is a world of difference. Delta has no idea of what great customer service is.

There is no doubt that the Okavango Delta is beautiful and the mokoro rides, very peaceful and relaxing. We saw hippos, elephants, monkeys and zebra and impala but had we had our time again, we would have only stayed 1 day/night instead of 4 days. We had come from an amazing safari experience in Chobe National Park and had high expectations of Oddballs/Okavango Delta. Needless to say, we were fairly disappointed – we saw animals, but had already seen hundreds of each of these in Chobe. There is no opportunity to see “big cats” in the Okavango and speaking to MD these are fairly rare (once every 3 to 6 months).

We also found the pace of life to be too slow, were easily bored and entertained ourselves with learning how to steer a mokoro…

We arrived at Oddballs as part of a tour but liked it so much that we decided to extend our stay and did not join the rest of the people for the last part of the itinerary. The atmosphere as soon as you arrive to oddballs is magic, elephants quietly feeding at a distance, birds, the sound of the bush and the people, everything is part of an incredible welcome moment that makes you feel 'arrived'. The cooking is excellent, simple but incredibly tasty, we particularly loved the freshly baked bread everyday. The bush walk were amazing, our guide Keizo was an endless source of information, tips, jokes. It was great fun to walk with him every day and we even got to see the rare wild dogs and the hyena. Plenty of animals around the camp and the tents were very comfy and well kept - the shower was quite fun, try it yourself!
we will surely try to come back, I never get too emotional when I leave a hotel - but I have to say that looking down from the plane and seeing that they were even doing the 'goodbye dance' for us..made me cry. A great team indeed.

Coming to Oddballs saved our overall vacation experience in Africa. And thank goodness for that!

Arriving at the camp on the small plane marked the start of our Oddballs experience. The pilot took time to point out the breathtaking landscape and our wildlife spotting began in earnest. We were so excited seeing Rhinos, Ellies, etc, as well as the spectacular Delta.

On arriving at the camp and throughout our stay, we enjoyed great cooking from Maria and the catering team.

Pony, the camp manager was an efficient and hands-on hostess. She always had the time to sit with guests and share her love for the Delta, wildlife and her country.

We especially thank our wonderful and tireless guides - Kitso (Knowledge) and Bafana, from whom we learned a lot about both the flora and fauna in the area. We were always lucky to sight animals every time we went out, much to the envy of the other guests, who probably had not been so fortunate. We put it down to the bush skills of our guides.

The camp was very relaxing and easy to be around. Our tents were just perfect for the setting. No bugs or mosquitoes beyond what can be expected at such a location.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience and one we will never forget. We also hope we made great friends in the camp team. We're definitely planning a return.

Our family of four spent three days here in December 2012. The flight in from Maun was our first adventure due to poor weather, but our skilled pilot eventually found a way to land safely. The next suprise was that we were the only guests. With a 2 to 1 staff to guest ratio, we were absolutely spoiled so readers should take that into account. The tents were very comfortable and the serenades of the hippos and amazing birdlife were a treat. Food was excellent and the manager and cooks worked wonders in accommodating our various dietary requirements, including those of our son who has life-threatening food allergies. The mokoro trips and guided walks were undoubtedly the highlight of our stay. Although you can cover more territory in a vehicle, walking is far less intrusive and a much more intimate experience. Seeing a mauled zebra and knowing that the predator is still out there with you is a sobering thought. The guides do not carry weapons as they are trained to ensure that guests are never placed in danger. We loved our time at Oddball's and would gladly return.

This was indeed a unique place far away from everywhere :-). I was there with my girlfriend and friend-couple for 4 days and I have to say that this was the most peaceful place in Botswana. We had few times a huge visitors during the night (male elephants) quarreling over the mopani fruit but our adrenalin level have decreased jus after the first night. Very friendly people and very experienced young guides. The visit to the village by the mokoro-canoe was very nice experience as well. It is however very difficult to get to Oddballs without the flight because it is about 1 hour flying from the Maun city. In case you need a small plain you can arrange this with very friendly pilot Tyrone from the New Zealand (zeelertyrone@yahoo.co.nz).

Room Tip: Try to ask for a tent at the edge of the camp 'cos you will have grater chance to see elephants...
