We stayed at Shinde at the end of our honeymoon. It was probably the camp we felt most at home, because of the great hosts Falie and Magda, and also because we had a great guide (Kione) who did not only have a lot of knowledge, but was also able to share it well (besides he had a great sense of humour). So we can highly recommend it, provided that you know what you are looking for.

People who want to go to Shinde only because they want to see a maximum number of animals may be disappointed - the camp is really in the middle of the wilderness, and wilderness is not Sea Word: you may be lucky or you may not be lucky to see animals. If, by contrast, you just would like to enjoy the feeling of being in the wild, and still enjoy a maximum of comfort, here you go.

I would also recommend it rather versus the end of the trip, not at the beginning - you may want to start with a more game reserve type of area, like Chobe, which has a maximum number of animals on a relatively small area. So you can take all your "must-have-animal-photos" there, and when you are in Shinde, you have the photos you wanted and can relax and concentrate on enjoying the little details and the atmosphere of being in Africa.

The camp is a Kerr & Downey camp and you can feel their strong influence - so if you have been to other Kerr & Downey Camps (like we were), you will recognize a lot of things - they seem to train people very thoroughly on how to greet guests, how to talk to guests, what to cook and how to cook it, etc., so it is pretty similar. In some cases, this may come across as a bit artificial and/or standardized, even though I believe that due to Falie and Magda being totally natural, you feel it less in Shinde than we did, for example, in Okuti.

To sum it up, we really enjoyed it and would go back again.

Beautiful lodge and first class service. The game viewing was also stunning - lot so lion, elephant, leopard and general plains game.

This was my first trip to Africa and to a safari camp so I really didn't know what to expect. Compared to the other camps we stayed in after Shinde I liked Shinde very much although the others were more luxurious. Shinde is like a 5 star hotel that was converted into a tree house. The tents are spacious and very nicely appointed. The staff was for the most part nice and accommodating, but some of our game drivers clearly wanted to be elsewhere. Of all the camps we stayed at (And the food was very good in all the camps.) Shinde's food was the best. The available of the game walk and the boat ride was a nice break from the drives.

This as our 3rd stay at this camp over a span of about 10 years and our 5th trip to Botswana and South Africa. Ker & Downey does an excellent job in accommodations, food, guides & staff at this camp. We have consistently had high quality sightings, well-informed guides (2 of whom we have repeatedly requested and who have been with the firm 18 and 20plus years each). Would reccomend highly.
