Sanctuary Stanley's Camp

We stayed for three nights and wanted to stay longer. The factilties were wonderful, the food was fab. the staff were kind, helpful and very friendly, nothing was ever too much trouble.
We saw so much more on the game drives than we expected to and our trip on the dug out canoe was unbelievable. We felt safe at all times even though the wild life was very close. One afternoon we came back to find an elephant taking a bath right outside our tent. The tents really are as good as they look on the web site.
Each morning you are woken with a pot of fresh coffee and delicious nibbles then it's breakfast which is better than at many 5 star hotels where we have stayed in the past. After a morning game drive you get back just before lunch and after lunch you have a couple of hours to laze in the hammock or the bed on your balcony before setting of (after afternooon tea,) for your afternoon/evening game drive during which you are served drinks of your choice and nibbles as you watch the sun go down.

Stanley's was everything I expected & hoped for. It's a beautiful, understated camp, that exudes the classic Africa that is slowly disappearing. Don't expect full-on luxury, but it's exceedingly comfortable, charming and relaxed. The tents are cozy & comfy with lovely African wood furnishings, an incredibly comfy bed & a great verandah with hammock alongside to look out over the plains - stunning. One thing though - they are VERY cold on Winter mornings - so be prepared. The food (cooked by the wonderful Harry) is total comfort food - and it's delicious. The game drives were excellent with TT my enthusiastic guide. Plenty of game in this great area with many different landscapes & terrains. The best thing for me was the staff - all are friendly and cannot do enough for you. Special thanks to Sue, Harry & Evelyn for their hospitality. Stanley's is a great choice - highly recommended. And whatever you do, don't miss the Elephant Activity - it's amazing.

Spent a couple of nights here recently and had a good time. I didn't find the place to be quite as spectacular as some of the reviewers here thought, but it was pretty good. If this was your first safari I think you would be very impressed as everything works and they look after you well, but it didn't quite match up to some other lodges I have stayed in.

Tents are comfortable and well thought out, but very very cold in winter. Food was very good and the staff are lovely and make sure you are looked after. The main disappointment was that I had a very ordinary guide (Ice) who frankly didn't seem that interested. I was told he had been doing it a long time and got the sense he was a bit bored of it all, which can kill the enthusiasm a bit! Still got some good sightings, but all appeared to be down to luck not judgement! I was told by others that Alan (the other guide at the time) was excellent, so ask to be with him when you book!

The top tip here is to do the elephant activity in the morning. It was wonderful, educational, entertaining and much more. Well worth the extra US$200 and I doubt you will ever get a chance to get that kind of interactivity with elephants anywhere else.

Overall you would certainly have a good time if you stayed here, but if i go to the delta again i will try somewhere else - ie for me it was good but not so good I have to go back. (You can do the elephant activity from all the camps in the area - it isn't exclusive to Stanleys).

We have just come back from 10-day safari in Botswana, Namibia and Zambia and stayed here for three nights as our first stop.

The camp is really nicely laid out and the tents have fantastic views of the savannah. The food was amazing (thanks to Harry, the chef) and plentiful (you basically eat every couple of hours!!!).

The game drives were incredible. Our guide was keener than us to see the animals and was constantly following tracks on the road and listening to birds and other noises to find them. So we ended up seing a lion, two leopards, two zebras, several hyenas and loads of warthogs, giraffes, elephants, impalas, buffalos, wildebeests, baboons and millions of birds of every type.

We didn't do the elephant experience but some of the other guests did and found it really good. The lodge also organises helicopter flights over the delta but I guess you can have similar views when you fly from one camp to the other.

In summary, we really recommend this lodge and would definitely go back.

PS. A bit of advice... If you go in the Winter months (May to August) bring warm clothes as it gets really chilly at night. During the day it's hot, but in the early morning and late afternoon it can be quite cold. So, a woolly hat, gloves, warm fllece and similar will be handy!

I just can't say enough about the service, the food, the people and the game viewing at Stanley Camp.

As a vegetarian they went far out of their way to prepare my meals. The food was great.

The guide on our game tour was so excited about tracking the big cats he offered to start the morning drive an hour early for me. No lions but plenty of elephants, cape buffalo and a leopard too.

The tents were spacious and clean.

The entire stay was much more exciting and comfortble than I had expected.

We booked with go2africa, and as we both wanted to enjoy the safari exp. I wasnt willing to give up my 5 star amenities. Well, you do not have to do that at Stanley's Camp. We flew into the camp from maun, and was welcome by a wonderful and fantasic guide, who asked as we step off the plane if we wanted to go for a game drive or freshen up a bit. We opted for the evening game drive. Lucky for us a leopard with cubs, had just made a kill, we observed her tired and very full tummy from our open top jeep from just about 2 feet... After an amazing first few hours at the camp on a game drive, we then headed back to the main camp. We were welcomed by such friendly people. The tents are divine and attention to detail is very well done. We were here just after the rains and it was begining of winter, the weather was fantasic for the entire 5 days we were here. added extras like hot water bottles in your bed to warm it before turning in each night., or your requested wine for your evening drives and canapes.. we had a lion in camp roaring one night, a very neat exp to hear his roars vibrate through your body. (we also had the elephant block us from getting in our tent one night, the staff took care of it with out incident) The hyena's are forever roaming in and around the camp at night( can get loud at times). As my husband is a big fan of the hyena this was a huge highlight for him ... our guide even went as far as to track a pack, he hunted them down and took us in their den, the young pups were close to our jeep within arms reach..The game viewing will not disappoint... Each morning a fantasic breakfest is served. The afternoon lunches are great, but the dinners at night are amazing... we had fantasic evening drives and stopping in the open plains to enjoy a nice bottle of wine, a good cigar and the botswana sun set. If you want luxury and fantasic game viweing( which is based on the time of year) this is the place to go. It will not disappoint. The staff is fantasic.. Our guide whom is contracted by the camp, was most informative and was a fantastic tracker.. would highly recommend this place... and will go again..

My wife and I just got back from a visit to Stanley's Camp and had a very good time

The tents are very nice. Not really luxurious but very nice. the dining area was very scenic and comfortable. The food was quite good.

The reason we went to Stanley's Camp was the elephant activity they offer. It was an outstanding experience. Don't miss it.

The game drives were also very good. We saw a good variety of animals and met some very nice people. Overall, this was a very fun place to visit.
