“Whata start!”

This was our first camp of the trip and it set a very very high standard for those that followed. Everything was superb, from the welcome to the food to the accomodation to the guides to the game viewing. The only thing that was wrong was that we were only there two nights. About 14 would have been better.

This camp was a the crown jewel of our month-long journey in southern Africa. Owned and operated by the Ker & Downey team, this 7-tent camp within the vast Okavango Delta is simply superb in every way.

Wonderful game viewing opportunities. Our guide took us out twice daily - and even a few night drives. Good mix of land and water viewing - all with incredibly informative and pleasant guides.

The accommodation was amazing - incredibly luxury while still feeling engaged with the environment. Food and wine selection could not have been better. The entire camp was even whisked away on Christmas night for a Bush Dinner.

Mark and Georgi are doing a wonderful job as managers of this Camp. I wouldn't change a thing and this destination is already on our list for the next journey.

We had a marvellous time at Kanana camp. The camp is luxurious - perhaps too much so for some tastes - and very comfortable. The food was amazing: I don't know how they do it miles away from anywhere, and everything needing to brought it by plane or long truck jouneys. Even special diets can be catered for, apparently without any trouble. We saw an amazing amount of wildlife and our guide, Kenny, quickly picked up that we were interested in small animals and birds as well as the big animals. His brilliant tracking skills and keen eyesight paid off on our final morning when he spotted the elusive leopard! We managed to get really close and just sit quielty watching it for over 30 minutes. Truely awsome! Nights can be noisy - the hippos come out of the water right next to the tents and munch loudly on the vegetation!

Kanana was the final camp on a four-camp tour of Botswana - and our long-awaited debut in the Okavango Delta. A truly magical experience. From the moment we were greeted by husband and wife managers Mark and Georgi, we just knew this Ker & Downey camp would be bliss. Warm, friendly, caring, efficient and smiling staff simply provided the punctuation on a memorable three nights. Boat trips into the Delta to see the famous heronry; fishing; watching Fish Eagles catch our catch; mokoro trips to observe tiny frogs in the reeds; memorable lunch with all the trimmings in the bush; tasty and imaginatively cooked food; excellent guiding from Paul Molesang; and tents providing touches of luxury without losing the 'close to nature' feel. The perfect end to a memorable stay in Botswana.

We had a very memorable stay at Kanana. The camp is very well managed and unlike other camps, the manager here (Mark) made a significant difference to our overall enjoyment of the camp and its facilities. He is always there and manages to mingle and socialise with the guests without being overbearing or omni present. All the staff are very welcoming and the service is excellent. We had a great guide in Maipaa – knowledgeable, fun and generally just good company. The team was very flexible and organised a walking safari for us on our last day so we could experience it even though we had limited time in the morning given our flight times etc.

Rooms are spacious, comfortable and well equipped, although you can tell that the camp is older than others in the Ker & Downey portfolio. Lighting is low like all camps in Africa and that helps keep the bugs to a minimum. Nets were very effective and we came away with no bites! The chefs were fabulous and kept us extremely well fed. If you go you must visit the heronry – you will not forget it.

Kanana was our second camp arranged by Ker & Downey and perfectly suited our family of 6. It's always a challenge travelling with children; especially with one as young as 6, and the staff at Kanana were both accommodative and very natural with all ages. Andrew, the manager, even took the older two boys for a little target shooting, though the souvenir shells needed some explanation at customs in Italy! Our guide, Amos, was excellent and having assumed game to be sparse given the "island" nature of the delta was surprised by the quality and diversity. The highlights were the pack of highly intelligent wild dogs we tracked on numerous occasions and the visit to the heronry to see nesting pelicans and storks. I should also mention the large maternal herd of elephants (25+) and several close up encounters with other elephants. Overall we found the camp to be welcoming and social, which we liked, with communal dining and a sunset view to die for! The rooms were spacious and clean though clearly a "mature" camp. The attention to service was evident by the small touches (hot water bottles in the jeep to fight off the morning chill) and the professionalism of the staff. Our other camps were intimate Linyanti Ebony and the sublime Singita Bolders in SA.

Arriving late in the day our guide Kenny took us from the aircraft directly to see a pride of lions before we made camp. What an enchanting start to our visit to the Delta. The welcoming fire for pre-dinner drinks let nothing slip about the fact that camp is right on the edge of the delta, nor did the sighting of a Serval on our balcony as we were lead to our "tent", a very comfortable room with enclosed ensuite. It was not til morning when we were called to breakfast that the reeds at the balcony revealed how close we were to water and the raised decked pathways that lead back to the main lounge and dining area gave an insight to what the wet summer season might bring. The exciting part of the trip was getting out on the water, to investigate the wildlife there, avoiding the hippos in the narrow waterways, admiring the pelicans, and after fishing, watching the white-headed fish eagle swoop down for his share. We were fascinated by the butter conditioners at the table, and were always well fed at every meal. Our lasting memory will be of the early morning Mekoro trip amongst the tranquil reeded waters before our departure. Thanks to Mark & Georgia & Kenny and all the staff for a fabulous experience.
