Loved getting to this camp by boat every day, dodging the hippo pods. We enjoyed the water experiences here--we did both a mokoro ride and a boat ride in addition to the game drives--and really loved the laid back environment. Unfortunately, the camp manager who was there our first night was about to leave for her break, and it showed. We had a blind stuck down in our tent and we were only able to get it fixed for our last afternoon there. Once the staff change occurred, we felt like the service was better (others who had arrived before us concurred.) A special lunch was set up for us in the bush prior to our flight out and we felt like a king and queen as we sipped our rose champagne. On game drives, we often drove quite a distance before coming across things, but still really enjoyed the highlights: seeing sable herds, watching spotted hyena pups, and a glimpse of a honey badger. This was the first camp we stayed at in Botswana and it was fabulous. I'd looked at the premier lodges and wasn't sure that they offered the level on intimacy that I wanted from a safari camp. This was the next down in terms of facilities and was excellent. It was small, friendly and fun. The tents were beautiful the communal areas were stunning. Plus the camp seemed to attract the odd elephant who liked to wander through, wow!

A lot of how you enjoy something like this depends on the staff as well as the travellers you meet and they were both incredible. Our guide Savara was exceptional! How he managed it I don't know but in 3 days we were lucky to see 3 different leopards and a pack of wild dogs, plus loads more. The guys at camp were so friendly and the quality of care, from being met with cool towels from every safari to the great smiles every time we walked past people, was stunning. Great little shop too!

This lifted the expectations I had which were high having done a huge amount of research on where to go and stay. My experience of 3 camps under the Wilderness Safari banner has set the standard for everyone else. I will look to them first when we go back to Africa.

Room Tip: All rooms look out across a marshy area that has animals just wandering by.

My wife and I visited Little Vumbura Camp in August, and had similar feelings to some of the other reviewers. It was our last of four camps, and without a doubt our least favorite. The management and staff of the camp were lacking in enthusiasm and overall caring for the guests. Our guide knew his material, but exhibited an unhappiness almost all of the time we were with him. The food was fine, and the tents perfectly acceptable, but not of the same quality as the other camps that we visited. One morning when half the guests had an opportunity to sleep a bit later than the other half, the staff failed to awaken those who had an early game drive; and in stead awakened those who had the chance to sleep late. We had set an alarm, and were ready for the early breakfast, however our escort for breakfast arrived about twenty minutes late. Although we arrived at breakfast late, we were the only people there. No staff and no food! The animal sightings were very good here, but no better than the other camps where staff and management were superb.

Thank you very much for the review you have posted on Little Vumbura. We really do appreciate receiving feedback from our guests.

Unfortunately, on the morning in question the duty guides overslept and the responsibilities were taken over by another guide resulting in a mix-up of the room numbers. The camp was also being hosted by a relief General Manager and we noticed that the day-to-day running of the camp did not flow as smoothly as we would have liked. Senior management were made aware of your comments and they addressed these concerns with the relevant individuals, to ensure that we are not experiencing similar situations with the next relief manager/s.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by the lapse of attention to detail during your stay at Little Vumbura.

We had a fantastic time at Little Vumbura, in large part due to our exceptional guide Sevara who was friendly, knowledgable, passionate about Botswana and the Okavango Delta, a wonderful teacher and a really nice guy with a great sense of humour. We were so lucky to have him.
The camp was great, a lovely position, very nice tented rooms, the food was excellent, the staff were all lovely, friendly, helpful, couldn't have asked for more.
We had some very special experiences here - seeing amazing wildlife interactions such as wild dog seemngly playing with a wildbeest and teaching their pups what to do, the courting dance of the endangered wattled stork, a herd of beautiful sable, close but peaceful experiences with elephants and many many other wonderful things.
We had the pleasure of going out in the boat and also in the mokoro, both of which were different and very interesting and special experiences although different from game drives, very much wrth doing.

Little Vumbura was our 4th and final Wilderness Camp. We had high expectations based on the other 3 camps---- The saving grace was our guide, Sam. He was so knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. It is not easy being the 4th guide as we had pretty much seen most of our wish list!! But Sam showed us how to track and we started to see how the animals thought, not just what they looked like--- While we loved our experience with Sam, we were disappointed in the management and attitude of the staff. We had come from camps were it was obvious that you were welcome guests. At this camp there was almost an indifference and we then learned that they were substitute managers. We did not get the special welcomes on our pillows or even an evaluation sheet when we departed. The tents were pretty hot as it seemed like some trees had recently been lost and the boardwalks had several broken boards etc- The food was only OK and our last night they did not even bother with a campfire. While we had been sad to leave each of the other camps, at Little Vumbura we were only sad to leave our guide, Sam.

Our guide was moody - at times great, at times seemingly bored and at times all but hostile. He seemed to be at odds with at least one of the managers. We do not know the full story but it undermined the quality of our experience. For example, our interests and transport schedule were different than those of other of "his" guests. We sought and were provided accommodation from one of the managers only to have our guide get upset and have the plans changed so that we were returned to him (and his seemingly increased hostility). We lost the better part of two activites. All and all, whatever was going on, it made for an awkward and disappointing stay at what otherwise seemed like a nice camp with friendly staff.

Room Tip: Room 3 was good - neither too close nor too far from the main lodge.

I've been there this August and this camp is lovely!
We arrived at sunset after a safari days and to get there you have to take a little boat and WOW...
the location is outstanding! The tent are really nice and the staff is friendly and very nice (always a plus of any Wildeness camps).
The food is not the best we had, but we weren't here for the food.
We were lucky with our safari, but for what I have leant, every year is different here.
A special thank to our guide Savara, I love his humor!
