After years of wanting to visit this area I cannot say it blew me away. Possibly timing is everything, and I am sure if the Flamingoes were in the Nata Bird Sanctuary this might have been different

Picture this:
You are walking across grey, dried out crunchy mud that looks like the surface of the moon.
The land is so utterly flat that the horizon looks a lot closer than it is.
The sun starts to set, and everything is washed in blood red light before the sun drops below the horizon so clearly you feel like you could pick it back up again.

Then the stars start to come out, and there are millions and millions and millions of them, more than you have seen anywhere else in the world.

Stunning!!!

With this trip you get the added extra of visiting the wild meerkats nearby, which are tame enough to carry on about their daily business without being spooked by you.

The only part I wasn't keen on was the quad bikes, which depending on your group, can tear off at super fast speeds. As someone who has never driven a motorised vehicle, I was completely unnerved by it all, and on the way back, you go through farmland which has a lot of potholes and rocks etc in the road.
If you've never driven a quad bike before I would seriously recommend that you either go in the truck, or sit behind someone who has experience in driving quads.

The camp team cook an amazing braai (BBQ) of an evening and all of your drinks are brought out from your hotel in cooler boxes.
Sleeping on a bedroll under the stars was just magical... Be sure to wake up before sunrise!!!!

You can look around you 360 degrees and see nothing but the horizon. At night, you see no artificial lights. It is like no other place I have been to in the world. Very special.

Quad bikes, meerkats, bushman, these were great options to entertain a family that travels to Africa once a year, for the past 8 years. It was a great place to visit.
